Richard Masters,
CEO de la Premier League, habló después de la 'telereunión' en el que los 20
clubes de la Liga inglesa discutieron sobre la reanudación del campeonato. Todo
en una jornada en la que el Gobierno dio luz verde a que regrese la Premier a puerta cerrada y a partir de junio si la pandemia remite en el Reino Unido.
"El Gobierno
británico marcó una hoja de ruta para el desconfinamiento y durante la reunión
recibimos noticias sobre la vuelta del fútbol. Damos la bienvenida a estos
nuevos pasos y estaremos listos para desempeñar nuestro papel. Estamos
trabajando con todas las partes interesadas: el Gobierno, nuestros socios de
transmisión, la FA (Federación), la EFL (English Football League que agrupa al
Championship, League One y League Two), la PFA (Sindicato de Futbolistas) y la
LMA (Sindicato de Entrenadores) para crear un modelo responsable y seguro para
completar la temporada. El primer paso es volver a los entrenamientos con el
distanciamiento y la seguridad necesaria y para eso tenemos un protocolo, que
está bajo consejo médico, y una compañía para hacer las pruebas", aseguró
un Master que incidió en que "no se ha tomado ninguna decisión":
"No se acordará nada hasta que consultemos con los jugadores y los
entrenadores".
"La
seguridad es lo primero y debemos escuchar al Gobierno, las autoridades y los
expertos médicos y seguir sus consejos. Tenemos una fuerte voluntad
colectiva de terminar la temporada. Obviamente, no jugaremos hasta mediados de
junio, por lo que no parece correcto hablar de jugar antes de haber tomado la
decisión de regresar a la primera etapa de los entrenamientos", dijo un
Masters que habló de competir en campos neutrales.
"Hablamos de
ello. Obviamente, es la preferencia de todos nuestros clubes jugar en casa si
es posible, pero todos deben ser conscientes de lo que las autoridades nos
dicen y continuaremos con esa conversación. Hemos estado hablando con las
autoridades sobre las condiciones en las que podríamos hacer que vuelva la
Premier. Y está claro que en este aspecto algunos clubes tienen opiniones más
firmes que otros", afirmó un Masters que deslizó un tema inédito hasta le
fecha: "Es la primera vez que discutimos de la reducción de la
temporada. Obviamente, todavía es nuestro objetivo terminar la campaña, pero es
importante discutir todas las opciones con nuestros clubes. No se llegaron
a conclusiones sobre ningún otro modelo. Esas son conversaciones futuras que
quizás necesitemos tener".
También habló de
los contratos que finalizan el 30 de junio: "Hemos estado trabajando lo
máximo posible para asegurar que los clubes completen la temporada con el mismo
equipo que tenían antes de la suspensión. Lo que se acordó hoy es que los
jugadores pueden extender sus contratos más allá del 30 de junio hasta el final
de la temporada, pero ambas partes deben acordarlo a más tardar el 23 de
junio".
