El Watford ha
hecho pública su disconformidad con el plan de reinicio de la competición que
proyecta la Premier League y rechaza disputar lo que queda de
temporada en campos neutrales, tal y como pretende la máxima categoría del
fútbol inglés.
El Watford se une
así a clubes como el Brighton and Hove y el Aston Villa, contrarios a esa
fórmula.
El presidente y
director ejecutivo del Watford, Scott Duxbury, indicó en la página web del club
que jugar el resto de curso en estadios neutrales "compromete la
equidad y la integridad deportiva".
La postura del
Watford complica el acuerdo para el reinicio de la liga en Inglaterra.
Está prevista una
reunión el próximo lunes con los veinte clubes de la Premierpara perfilar
el asunto. Son necesarios al menos catorce votos favorables para que
la iniciativa sea aprobada y el plan de reinicio siga adelante.
Sin embargo,
siete de los clubes, actualmente, no son partidarios de dar luz verde a la
propuesta, aunque solo los tres citados lo han hecho público. No
obstante, no está previsto que la votación sea en la reunión del lunes y
posiblemente será pospuesta para más adelante, cuando el gobierno clarifique
los criterios de seguridad.
"Asumo que
no podemos tener seguidores en el estadio. Es evidente en la situación actual.
Sin embargo, ahora se nos dice que tampoco podemos disputar nuestros
partidos como local en Vicarage Road, en nuestro campo, con la ventaja que
eso supone. Esto sin contar que los jugadores van a ver sus vidas, de pronto,
al revés del mundo. Que todo vuelva como si nada hubiera pasado a pesar de
que el resto de la sociedad aún se enfrenta a restricciones que no se
van a cumplir en un campo de fútbol", añade el presidente del Watford.
"Tenemos
personal médico en nuestro club que trabaja en una situación que ningún otro
médico vive. Con pautas que no son más que suposiciones, no hechos científicos.
Con todo tipo de riesgos para la salud se nos pide terminar una
competición que no se parece en nada a la que comenzamos y que puede
terminar con un club pequeño como el Watford en la Premier League", indica
Duxbury.
"¿Eso es
justo?¿Se parece en algo a la integridad deportiva?. Claro que no. Será una
miniliga distorsionada de nueve partidos", añade el presidente del
Watford.
"Cuando al
menos seis clubes, y sospecho que más, están preocupados por la clara
desventaja y los efectos devastadores de jugar en esta miniliga de nueve
partidos, es por algo y creo que la Premier debe atender a estas
preocupaciones", agregó Duxbury.
"Si
comenzamos y terminamos una temporada completa bajo estas condiciones, en
estadios neutrales y con el conocimiento de las reglas desde el principio y no
impuestas en un momento de crisis, sería justo pero no cuando se proponen
para un tramo. Eso es otra cosa", insistió el responsable del
Watford.
