El secretario general del sindicato mundial de jugadores FIFPro, Jonas Baer-Hoffman, defendió que se debe volver a jugar al fútbol "cuando sea realmente seguro" y no "en dos o cuatro semanas", ya que si se anticipa el retorno y se pone en peligro a algún jugador "el fútbol se cerrará por más tiempo".

 

"Lo peor que puede ocurrir es que alguien vuelva pronto, tenga que parar porque genere un peligro para los jugadores, ofrezca un mal ejemplo para la sociedad y entonces se cerrará por más tiempo. Por eso es crucial que trabajemos juntos y tener el consejo de expertos para volver cuando sea realmente seguro, no en dos o cuatro semanas. Tenemos que pensar en un plazo más largo", afirmó en un debate por videoconferencia organizado por 'Soccerex'.

El ejecutivo del sindicato de jugadores explicó que los futbolistas están preocupados tanto por su riesgo de infección como por ser "una mala influencia para la sociedad" si retornan a la actividad antes de tiempo, y que también ellos se ven afectados por los problemas económicos que acarrea la suspensión de la temporada por la pandemia del coronavirus.

 

"Muchos jugadores a los que representamos cobran 3.000 ó 4.000 euros, para ellos perder dos pagas es tan importante como para cualquiera", aseguró Baer-Hoffman, que añadió que los casos de ansiedad "se han duplicado" entre los futbolistas profesionales, como le ha ocurrido a muchas personas por el confinamiento.

 

No obstante, el representante de los sindicatos consideró "una buena decisión" dar prioridad a finalizar, si es posible, las competiciones nacionales, porque son "un pilar financiero" y porque aportan "cohesión social", aunque recordó que para muchas jugadoras de fútbol femenino jugar con sus selecciones les aporta buena parte de sus ingresos.

 

En un debate con representantes de la asociación de clubes ECA y las Ligas Europeas, el secretario general de FIFPro pidió "pensar cómo reconstruir el fútbol" a largo plazo.

 

"Será diferente, probablemente más pequeño desde una perspectiva económica, pero no tiene por qué ser más débil. Ojalá sea más igualitario, más justo y más económicamente sostenible, porque lo hemos visto es que el modelo económico de nuestro sector no es capaz de trabajar con crisis como la que hemos vivido", reflexionó.

El secretario general del sindicato mundial de jugadores participó en este debate de 'Soccerex' por videoconferencia con el presidente de las Ligas Europeas de fútbol, Lars-Christer Olsson; el secretario general de la Asociación Europea de Clubes (ECA), Michele Centenaro; y el consejero delegado de la Sport Integrity Global Alliance, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros.
