Nenad Bjelica (Osijek, Croacia, 1971) jugó en el Albacete, Betis y Las Palmas durante los 90, antes de irse a Alemania y Austria, donde comenzó su carrera como entrenador. En Zagreb había ganado dos ligas e iba camino de otra antes de que hace unos días, por los problemas económicos, tuviera que salir del club.
¿Qué pasó con el Dinamo de Zagreb?
Llegamos a un acuerdo para rescindir el contrato. El club, sin consultar a la plantilla, había dado un ultimátum de rebajar las fichas y nos negamos a que fuera tanta cantidad.
¿Cómo puede ser que no siga un entrenador que iba camino de ganar su tercera Liga seguida y que hizo historia en Champions League?
No es lógico, porque habíamos conseguido cosas que no ocurrían allí hace 50 años. Pero he visto cosas peores en el fútbol. El tiempo dirá quién tiene la razón. He dado lo mejor de mí, he intentado mejorar al equipo y a los jugadores individualmente. Hicimos dos temporadas históricas.
¿Y ahora, qué espera Bjelica?
Mi intención es entrenar en alguna de las ligas más importantes del mundo. Creo que después de 13 años de entrenador y 470 partidos, ya va siendo hora. Hablo español, italiano, alemán, inglés y polaco, además del croata. Eso me abre muchas puertas.
¿Cuántos clubes le han llamado ya estos días?
(Risas). Cuando entrenaba al Dinamo ya llegaban ofertas de países como Emiratos o China. Pero no me mueve el dinero. Quiero mostrar mi valía en alguna liga de primer nivel, como Italia, Alemania o España.

Dani Olmo es quizá el mejor jugador que he entrenado. En dos años se ha desarrollado de manera impresionante. Es un chico maravilloso y una persona espléndida. Hace poco encontré un periódico de marzo de 2019 y había una entrevista en la que dije que seguro que iba a debutar con la selección absoluta. Y eso ha pasado. Dani es un ganador nato.
¿No cree que apuntaba a un club de mayor entidad?
Sinceramente no pensaba que se fuera a ir a Alemania, pero es decisión suya. Creo que en España o Italia su talento podría verse más, pero en la Bundesliga también va a destacar, seguro. Encontrará su camino sea donde sea, sabe lo que quiere en la vida y lucha para conseguirlo.
Aquí en LaLiga tenemos a dos compatriotas suyos, Luka Modric e Ivan Rakitic, que no saben dónde estarán el año que viene.
Modric recibió el Balón de Oro hace solo unos meses y sigue jugando a buen nivel. No debería irse del Madrid. Rakitic es más joven, pero digo lo mismo. Quizá no tanto este año, pero siempre ha sido muy importante para el Barcelona. Igual ha merecido mejor trato. A veces viene un técnico que no cuenta contigo, hay que aceptarlo y buscar el sitio donde se pueda jugar más.
LaLiga fue su Liga. Albacete, Betis, Las Palmas... Un gol suyo con los verdiblancos al Celta sirvió para jugar una final de Copa en 1997. No lo olvidan tampoco los celestes, por la polémica.
Serra Ferrer me sacó con empate a 0-0, y lo metí en una una jugada en la que decidimos no devolver el balón al Celta, porque ellos no dejaban de parar el juego. Hice una pared con Alfonso y marqué. Luego fue el gol de la clasificación. Mis recuerdos de Sevilla son los mejores, un hijo mío nació allí. ¿Si me gustaría entrenar al Betis? Tiene una gran afición y es una ciudad donde uno puede mostrar su capacidad.
En Sevilla jugó asimismo su paisano Davor Suker, que también es de Osijek.
En Osijek no coincidimos, pero en España jugamos uno contra otro y en la Selección algún partido juntos. Davor es presidente de la Federación croata y tengo una relación muy buena de amistad con él.
