Mientras la pandemia
por coronavirus sigue amenazando al fútbol en todo el planeta, surgen ideas
sobre cómo tendrá que ser la vuelta a la normalidad el día que el balón vuelva
a rodar. En este sentido, el virólogo belga Marc van Ranst ha lanzado una
propuesta innovadora: cree que se podrían reanudar las competiciones con los
futbolistas jugando con mascarilla.
"Es una
opción a considerar", señala el virólogo en el periódico francés 'Le
Soir'. "Por supuesto -puntualiza-, no se trata de mascarillas quirúrgicas,
que son totalmente inadecuadas. En Internet, hay mascarillas anticontaminación
que pueden usar los jugadores de fútbol americano o los ciclistas. Son
mascarillas más cómodas".

del fútbol
Marc van Ranst es
un virólogo belga que ha actuado como asesor de la Liga belga (Jupiler Pro
League) en la crisis del coronavirus. Profesor en la Universidad de Lovaina, su
reputación ha ido en aumento en las últimas semanas y ha llamado la atención de
la UEFA, que mantiene contacto permanente con el virólogo para evaluar las
consecuencias de la pandemia en el fútbol europeo.
Van Ranst ha sido
clave en la decisión del fútbol belga de dar por terminada su Liga (proclamando
al Brujas campeón) y en los últimos días ha sido muy claro con respecto al
regreso de las competiciones: "Tengo la impresión de que la UEFA está
empezando a ver que jugar al fútbol ya no es posible esta temporada. Debemos
ser honestos: los eventos masivos como los partidos de fútbol o los festivales
de música estarán entre las últimas cosas que permitimos nuevamente".

'precedente' de Gremio
El uso de
mascarillas para jugar al fútbol sería algo absolutamente novedoso, si bien
desde el inicio de la pandemia el fútbol ya nos ha dejado algunas imágenes de
lo que podría verse próximamente. A mediados del mes de marzo los jugadores del
Gremio brasileño saltaron al campo con mascarillas en su partido contra el Sao
Luiz como señal de protesta contra las autoridades de Porto Alegre, ciudad que
en ese momento tenía cinco casos de COVID-19.
