El expresidente
de la FIFA, Joseph Blatter, dijo que Estados Unidos sería capaz de organizar el
Mundial de fútbol de 2022 después de las polémicas relacionadas con la
corrupción en la adjudicación de la sede a Catar, que albergará el próximo
Campeonato del Mundo, y descartó a cualquier país europeo después de que Rusia
fuese el último anfitrión.
"Estados
Unidos podría hacerlo (en 2022) en lugar de 2026", dijo Blatter en una
entrevista con el diario 'Bild'. "¡Son capaces, no es ciencia ficción!
Japón también podría hacerlo. También se ofrecieron para organizar el Mundial
de 2022", añadió el exdirigente, inhabilitado con seis años en 2015 por
incumplir el código ético de la FIFA.
"Afortunadamente,
la Copa Mundial 2022 solo tendrá 32 equipos y no 48 como había planeado [el
presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino]. El esfuerzo organizativo no sería
mayor que el 2018", manifestó Blatter, que tiene claro en la capacidad de
los estadounidenses para acoger la cita cuatro años antes de lo previsto si
fuese necesario.
"Alemania
también podría hacerlo. Pero esto significaría que la Copa del Mundo se
organizaría nuevamente en Europa después del año 2018", recordó el
exdirectivo suizo, que descarta prácticamente al 'Viejo Continente' si
finalmente no se organizase en Catar. "Europa, por lo tanto, no sería la
primera opción".
Blatter, que
presidió la FIFA desde 1996 hasta 2015, también fue preguntado por la
resolución del fiscal federal suizo, quien el pasado mes de marzo concluyó su
trabajo respecto a la concesión realizada a la Unión de Fútbol del Caribe (CFU)
para vender los derechos de transmisión de la Copa Mundial.
"Las
investigaciones son parte de un complot importante en mi contra", dijo
Blatter. "Es increíble que los investigadores vieran el contrato normal
que hizo con la CFU durante más de cuatro años", explicó Blatter, que cree
que la FIFA tendría su "mejor reacción" si le nombrase presidente
honorífico.
