
A través de un
comunicado de prensa oficial, las autoridades de la MLS calificaron de
"improbable" la posibilidad de cumplir con el deseo original de
reanudar la actividad en mayo y no dieron garantías de que pueda disputarse la
temporada completa.
Las autoridades
de la MLS no podrían haber imaginado nunca un escenario peor a la hora de
celebrar su temporada número 25, para la que se habían preparado de manera muy
especial. Aunque se intentó por todos los medios no dar el brazo a torcer ante
la propagación del coronavirus en los Estados Unidos, la realidad se empeña en
arruinar sus planes.
Este martes, a
través de un comunicado oficial, informaron que es "improbable" la
posibilidad de cumplir el deseo original de reanudar la actividad en mayo.
Además, no dieron garantías, aunque sí expresaron la intención, de que pueda
disputarse la temporada completa en función de las fechas disponibles.
"La Major
League Soccer continúa evaluando con regularidad el impacto de la pandemia
COVID-19, incluida la forma en que afectará nuestros planes para la temporada
2020. Aunque esperábamos volver a jugar en mayo, es muy improbable teniendo en
cuenta las recomendaciones de las autoridades de la salud, tanto locales como
federales", comienza diciendo el comunicado.

Sobre la
posibilidad de que pueda completarse una temporada que lleva disputadas apenas
dos jornadas, agrega: "Nuestro objetivo sigue siendo que se disputen
tantos juegos como sea posible y, aunque actualmente tenemos suficientes fechas
para jugar toda la temporada, reconocemos que puede volverse difícil
hacerlo".
Para finalizar el
comunicado, la MLS dice estar a la espera de futuras recomendaciones y agradece
el apoyo de los fanáticos: "Continuamos aprendiendo todos los días de los
expertos médicos y esperamos tener nuevos detalles la próxima semana sobre las
fechas para volver a jugar. Como hemos hecho hasta ahora, actualizaremos a los
fanáticos sobre cada nueva decisión y les agradecemos su apoyo y comprensión en
este momento extremadamente desafiante".
