
La decisión
será oficial en breve, tras ceder las fechas del verano de 2021 a la Eurocopa
de la UEFA. También estudia suspender todos los partidos de selecciones hasta
2021 para reducir el riesgo de pandemia con los viajes internacionales y hacer
hueco a los clubes.
La FIFA tiene
tomada la decisión de retrasar un año el estreno del nuevo Mundial de Clubes,
en el que participarán los campeones continentales de las cuatro últimas
temporadas. El Supermundial estaba anunciado para junio de 2021, pero la
pandemia obligó a retrasar un año la Eurocopa, torneo que ocupará las fechas
reservadas para el torneo. Pronto será oficial, y la FIFA anunciará la primera
edición del Super24 (el nombre comercial que se baraja) para el mes de junio de
2022, en China.
El presidente
Infantino consiguió sacar adelante uno de las promesas de su mandato en el
Comité Ejecutivo de marzo de 2019. Lo hizo con la oposición de la UEFA, que en
el Supermundial una competencia para la Champions. Las tensiones que provocó
esa decisión quedaron diluidas hace tres semanas, cuando Infantino renunció
voluntariamente a celebrar la primera edición del torneo en junio de 2021 para
ceder esas fechas a la Eurocopa de la UEFA.
Ya se ha tomado
la decisión de disputar la primera edición en junio de 2022, tras el Mundial de
Qatar que será el primero en disputarse en invierno. El Supermundial de Clubes
se disputará cada cuatro años, en el hueco que antes ocupaba la Copa
Confederaciones. La segunda edición está pensada para arrancar en el verano de
2025, un año antes del Mundial que organizarán conjuntamente Estados Unidos,
México y Canadá. El formato también será novedoso: La decisión de FIFA es que
el torneo se distribuya en ocho grupos de tres equipos. Se clasificaría
únicamente el primero de los tres, que pasaría a cuartos. A partir de ahí, se
jugarán eliminatorias hasta llegar a la final.
Por otra parte, y
con el fin de hacer hueco al fútbol de clubes, la FIFA también podría aplazar
todos los partidos de selecciones hasta el año que viene. Es decir, que
aplazaría las fechas internacionales de los meses de septiembre, octubre y noviembre,
en los que España debe jugar la Liga de Naciones, en la que debutaría el 3 de
septiembre. Así lo anticipó el vicepresidente de la FIFA, Victor Montagliani,
que dirige el grupo de trabajo sobre el calendario.
