El futbolista del
Guayaquil City Edwin Espinoza, de 20 años, fue asesinado este sábado en la
puerta de su casa en el popular barrio guayaquileño Isla Trinitaria, al sur de
la ciudad, informó a Efe Carlos Franco, director deportivo de este club de la
Primera División de Ecuador.
Espinoza fue
"un correcto joven futbolista, muy respetuoso y educado, con una gran
proyección dentro del Guayaquil City. Lo conozco desde los 12 años cuando llegó
al club", añadió Franco.
El centrocampista recibió varios disparos.
Según pudimos
conocer, lo confundieron con alguien cuando se encontraba hoy en la puerta de
su casa", precisó el directivo.

Espinoza formaba
parte de las reservas del Guayaquil City, que ocupa el quinto puesto en la Liga
Pro, a 4 puntos del líder, Técnico Universitario que tiene 11.
El
centrocampista, tal como toda la plantilla del Guayaquil City y de todos los
clubes ecuatorianos, se entrenaba en su domicilio, en cumplimiento de la
cuarentena decretada en marzo pasado por el Gobierno para frenar la expansión
de laCOVID-19.
Guayaquil es la
ciudad más afectada por el coronavirus, según las autoridades ecuatorianas que
han prohibido las concentraciones masivas, lo que ha incidido en las
competiciones y entrenamientos de deportistas.
La Federación
Ecuatoriana de Fútbol y la Liga-Pro, en acatamiento a esa disposición,
suspendieron el pasado 15 de marzo los campeonatos nacionales de todas las
categoría, para evitar el contagio del coronavirus.
La trágica muerte
del joven futbolista ecuatoriano recordó otro hecho similar ocurrido el año
pasado, que conmocionó al deporte nacional.
En mayo de 2019,
Josué Quiñónez del Independiente Juniors, de la serie B del campeonato nacional
y filial del Independiente del Valle, fue asesinado durante un asalto, según
señalaron entonces las autoridades policiales.
