Otro torneo ha sucumbido ante la crisis del Coronavirus. En este caso un evento de carácter amistoso, pero que cada verano venía cobrando más fuerza y reuniendo a los mejores equipos del planeta, la International Champions Cup organizada por el grupo Relevent Sports.
Así lo ha anunciado la organización del torneo a través de su cuenta de Twitter, en la queaduce la incompatibilidad de disputar sus partidos con el hecho de que, probablemente, los diferentes campeonatos nacionales utilizarán las fechas de verano para terminar sus competiciones.
Uno de los partidos estrella de la ICC de este año podía ser un nuevo Clásico en tierras estadounidenses (el primero fue en Miami en 2017) entre Real Madrid en Barcelona. El partido aún no estaba confirmado pero sí se habían comenzado las negociaciones y el escenario iba a ser Las Vegas.
Ya en febrero, cuando el azote del coronavirus se disparó en China, obligó a Relevent Sports a cancelar la parte del torneo que se iba a jugar en Singapur. Ahora llega la confirmación de la cancelación de toda la competición, justo en el peor momento de la crisis en Estados Unidos, con Nueva York como gran foco de la infección en el país norteamericano.
"La salud de jugadores, técnicos, aficionados y todos los que están involucrados es siempre lo primero. La falta de claridad sobre hasta cuándo será necesaria la distancia social, sobre cuándo se levantarán las restricciones y sobre el calendario internacional del fútbol, con la posibilidad de que las ligas europeas se jueguen en agosto, significa que disputar la International Champions Cup este verano es inviable", asegura el comunicado, que cita ya a aficionados y equipos para el evento del próximo año: "Esperamos traer volver a traer los clubes más incónicos y los mejores partidos a Estados Unidos y Asia de nuevo en 2021".
Esta cancelación supone un nuevo revés económico para Madrid y Barça ya que implica que dejen de percibir más de 15 millones de euros, según las estimaciones de la entidad. Ambos se encuentran en el selecto grupo que cobra el mayor caché en la ICC (junto al Manchester United y Bayern, y se les quiere unir el Liverpool) con 3M€ netos por amistoso, más bonus en función de la entidad del rival. Una cifra que se multiplicó por tres en el Clásico de Miami (9M€) y que se había puesto como base para negociar la minuta para cada club en el Clásico de Las Vegas....
En cambio sí se mantiene, al menos por el momento, la disputa del torneo femenino y el de promesas, así como otros programas de Relevent Sports en Norteamérica.
