Ultima la
creación de un fondo para auxiliar al fútbol mundial ante la crisis del
coronavirus, según The New York Times. Sus reservas en caja alcanzan los 2.400
millones de euros.
La FIFA está
estudiando la creación de un fondo millonario, una especie de Plan Marshall,
con el fin de paliar los efectos que la crisis del coronavirus está teniendo
sobre la industria del fútbol, según revela The New York Times citando fuentes
del organismo que agrupa a todas las federaciones nacionales del planeta.
La FIFA entiende
que la gravedad de la situación ha comprometido los ingresos por taquilla,
televisión y patrocinio hasta ahogar económicamente a algunos clubes. The New
York Times recuerda que esta semana, el MSK Zilina, siete veces campeón eslovaco,
se declaró en quiebra, y que la Federación de Uruguay despidió a 400 miembros
del personal ante la suspensión de todas las actividades futbolísticas. En
España, cuatro clubes de Primera División (Barcelona, Atlético, Espanyol y
Alavés y varios de Segunda han anunciado la presentación de un ERTE. En la
Bundesliga, los futbolistas están bajándose el sueldo entre un 20% y un 30%. En
Italia, equipos como la Juventus ya han pactado recorte de salarios. Y la
Premier busca también una rebaja general.
"La FIFA se
encuentra en una situación financiera sólida y es nuestro deber hacer todo lo
posible para ayudarles en este momento de necesidad", dijo la organización
en un comunicado el martes. "Por lo tanto, confirmamos que la FIFA está
trabajando en distintas opciones para proporcionar asistencia a la comunidad
del fútbol en todo el mundo después de hacer una evaluación completa del
impacto financiero que esta pandemia tendrá en el fútbol."
La ECA, presidida
por Andrea Agnelli, máximo dirigente de la Juventus y que agrupa a 200 clubes,
remitió una carta advirtiendo de la magnitud de la crisis: “Nos enfrentamos a
una amenaza real existencial. El fútbol está ahora en un punto muerto en
nuestros flujos de ingresos, que es de donde pagamos a nuestros jugadores, al personal
y otros gastos de explotación. Nadie es inmune. Este es el mayor reto al que
nuestra se ha enfrentado jamás".
Ahora, la FIFA
quiere tirar de una de las mayores reservas de caja entre los organismos
deportivos mundiales y utilizarla para proteger a la industria, a semejanza de
lo que han hecho los gobiernos de todo el mundo para intentar frenar los
efectos de la pandemia.
Las cifras
Según su último
informe anual, publicado el año pasado, la FIFA tuvo reservas en efectivo de
2.740 millones de dólares (2.460 millones de euros). La organización está
considerando utilizar parte de esta reserva para auxiliar al fútbol en esta
crisis y también está dispuesta a adelantar dinero de los próximos contratos de
televisión e ingresos de patrocinio para crear un “fondo de ayuda de
fútbol".
Este fondo
requeriría la aprobación del Comité Ejecutivo de la FIFA, un grupo de 36
miembros procedentes de las seis confederaciones regionales. El fondo sería
administrado de manera diferente a la estructura actual, en que se entregan 6
millones de dólares cada cuatro años a cada una de sus 211 asociaciones
miembro, independientemente de su tamaño y de sus necesidades
La FIFA está
haciendo una evaluación de los efectos a corto y medio plazo de coronavirus en
el fútbol mundial con el fin de averiguar cómo puede ayudar a las asociaciones
miembros. El fondo podría proporcionar créditos puente a corto plazo y
subvenciones incluso de emergencia. Ahora el debate está en si se atenderán
primero las necesidades más urgentes.
