Se avecinan problemas para algunos clubes de Inglaterra y no solo por los recortes salariales. La pandemia del coronavirus está teniendo un gran impacto en el aspecto financiero del fútbol, y según explican en Daily Mail, eso también se traslada a los patrocinadores.
Al igual que con los jugadores, los acuerdos publicitarios, ya se trate de la marca de la ropa que les viste o de la publicidad en el pecho o las mangas, se suelen firmar hasta que acaba el mes de junio. Pero si esta temporada se alarga, cabe la posibilidad de que haya camisetas que dejen de lucir a sus patrocinadores y por lo tanto, de que algunos equipos ganen menos dinero del que esperaban.
No es el caso de los clubes que tengan contratos largos con las empresas, pero sí con los que acaban este año (hay cinco que cambian de espónsor en la parte delantera de la camiseta y cinco que cambian el espónsor de la manga), ya que no existe ninguna cláusula en dichos contratos que les haga permanecer unidos hasta final de temporada, aunque probablemente algunos se arriesguen a perder los bonus por objetivos. Es el caso del Newcastle, que dejará de vestir Puma (6,5 millones de libras al año), así como de lucir la publicidad de Fun88 (6,5 millones) en el pecho o la de StormGain (1 millón) en la manga. Se da por hecho que cuando esos contratos expiren, Mike Ashley hará que lleven SportsDirect.com, la gran cadena de ropa deportiva de Reino Unido de la que él es propietario.
Pero al igual que el Watford dejará de vestir Adidas o el Chelsea cambiará Yokohama Tires por la compañía de teléfonos Three, el Liverpool también cambiará de marca y a pesar de que algunos clubes tendrían cortesía con sus patrocinadores, en Anfield puede que se solucione en los juzgados.
Y es que desde hace meses, New Balance y Nike mantienen una batalla legal por quién viste al Liverpool. Nike debería empezar a patrocinarles la próxima campaña, pero si se alarga la temporada, la empresa americana no cederá.
Hay muchos millones en juego y a todas las empresas les va a venir bien si consiguen sacar adelante sus estrategias en plena crisis, al mismo tiempo que los clubes obtienen una gran financiación de ello, ya sea con ingresos fijos o en función de los objetivos. Algo que no solo ocurrirá en la Premier League, sino también en la Liga Santander, la Serie A, la Bundesliga o la Ligue 1.
