La FIFA estudia el avance de la pandemia del coronavirus y la incidencia que puede tener en el calendario y en la economía del fútbol. Entre las ideas que están tomando forma, según un documento del grupo de trabajo creado tras declararse la pandemia y al que tuvo acceso la agencia Reuters, pero aún sin confirmación oficial por parte de la organización, está la de ampliar los contratos de jugadores y entrenadores que concluyen sus compromisos con los clubes el 30 de junio hasta que acabe la temporada y también alargar la próxima ventana de fichajes, que se extendería desde junio hasta enero, cuando debe comenzar la de invierno. Con esta medida se facilitaría el acabar las campañas con una cierta normalidad y aliviar el mercado de traspasos en un momento en el que nadie sabe cuando podrán recomenzar los campeonatos y cuando existe la seguridad que no podrá ser en todos lados al mismo tiempo.
El presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, ha solicitado a sus colaboradores que aporten ideas para solucionar los problemas que acarreará la pandemia. El más peliagudo es el del calendario, porque algunas Ligas piden ocupar fechas FIFA que la organización destina a las selecciones. Infantino, que ya cedió aplazando, de momento sin fecha, el Mundial de Clubes, quiere ver contrapartidas antes de dar un nuevo paso, que podría ser esta ampliación del mercado de fichajes.
En todo caso, no hay nada decidido al respecto porque la FIFA, en este momento, sólo tiene una prioridad: "ayudar en la lucha contra la pandemia". Cuando pase la crisis y la salud esté garantizada en toda Europa se pondrá con su negocio, y empezará por el nuevo calendario.
