El fútbol inglés, incluyendo la Premier League, no volverá hasta, como mínimo, el 30 de abril, y la federación inglesa aseguró que la temporada se completará cuando sea seguro.
Estas conclusiones han salido de la reunión mantenida este jueves por los diferentes agentes implicados en el fútbol británico para ver qué estrategia utilizar ante la suspensión del deporte por el brote de coronavirus.
"Estamos unidos en nuestro compromiso de continuar con la temporada de fútbol 2019/2020 y asegurar que todas las competiciones domésticas y europeas se juegan lo más pronto posible cuando sea seguro hacerlo", explicó la FA en un comunicado.
Según lo expuesto por la federación, las normas por las que se rige el fútbol inglés mantienen que la temporada no puede terminar más tarde que el 1 de junio, pero que el consejo de la FA ha acordado "aumentar este límite indefinidamente" para esta campaña.
"Adicionalmente, hemos acordado colectivamente que el fútbol profesional en Inglaterra se posponga hasta como mínimo el 30 de abril".
Además, los colectivos han mostrado su apoyo a la UEFA por posponer la Eurocopa de este verano a 2021, para dar espacio a las competiciones domésticas y europeas para poder terminarse.
"El progreso del COVID-19 continúa sin ser claro y nos gustaría reincidir en que la salud y el bienestar de los jugadores, trabajadores y aficionados es nuestra prioridad. Continuaremos siguiendo el consejo del Gobierno y trabajaremos con él para mantener la situación actual bajo análisis".
"Nuestros pensamientos están con todo aquel afectado por este virus", finalizó la FA.
La Premier League se suspendió la semana pasada cuando el entrenador del Arsenal, el español Mikel Arteta, dio positivo en coronavirus. A Arteta le siguió el futbolista del Chelsea Callum Hudson-Odoi. Han sido varios los equipos que han tenido a sus futbolistas en aislamiento ante jugadores que han mostrado síntomas de este virus.
Esta semana, el Gobierno británico aconsejó que todas las "reuniones masivas" como serían los eventos deportivos tenían que ser cancelados, con el objetivo de intentar paliar la propagación del virus.
