El torneo
Apertura 2020 del fútbol de Panamá ha sido cancelado por el coronavirus, una
decisión inédita en el país centroamericano, que no tendrá campeón del mismo y
donde no se descarta postergar el inicio, previsto en junio próximo, del
Clausura 2020.
El Apertura, que
arrancó en enero pasado y solo jugó 8 de las 18 fechas programadas, fue
cancelado con "el único objetivo de salvaguardar la salud física y
psicológica de nuestros futbolistas, así como la de todos aquellos que son
parte de nuestro fútbol profesional y sus familias", dijo este martes la
Federación Panameña de Fútbol (Fepafut).

Universitario era el líder hasta la octava fecha del torneo.
La Federación no
se refirió en un comunicado al asunto económico relacionado con los equipos de
la liga profesional, y se limitó a señalar que "decisiones deportivas
relacionadas con esta medida serán analizadas y se comunicarán una vez el
Comité Ejecutivo haya tomado una determinación al respecto".
Esta es la
primera vez en la historia del fútbol panameño que un torneo se cancela y no
habrá campeón. La decisión se toma cuando el país está en emergencia nacional
por el coronavirus COVID-19, que deja ya una persona fallecida y otros 68
contagiados.
El inicio del
Clausura, en el aire
En su comunicado,
la Fepafut adelantó que el segundo semestre del fútbol en Panamá dependerá de
la evolución del COVID-19, pero que de momento el inicio del torneo Clausura
está programado para el 27 de junio próximo.
"La
pretemporada debe arrancar a mediados de mayo, aunque este plan está sujeto a
cambios según el acontecer diario de la presencia del COVID-19 en Panamá",
precisa la nota de Fepafut.
La Federación se
mantendrán en contacto con los clubes y la Asociación de Futbolistas de Panamá
(Afutpa) para seguir conversando sobre otros temas del sector, conforme como
vaya aconteciendo la situación del COVID-19 en nuestro país.
En un intento por
frenar los contagios del coronavirus, el gobierno panameño suspendió desde la
semana pasada todos los eventos deportivos y culturales masivos, y en los
últimos días se ha ordenado el cierre temporal de locales de ocio, se prohibió
la entrada al país de extranjeros y se suspendieron los vuelos procedentes de
Europa y Asia.
