La UEFA ha anunciado que el próximo martes 17 se reunirá de forma urgente con motivo del avance del coronavirus, que ha obligado a parar alguna de las principales Ligas europeas como la española o la italiana. Por el momento, ya se ha aplazado el encuentro entre el Manchester City y el Madrid que debía disputarse el próximo martes (los madridistas están en cuarentena debido al positivo por coronavirus de Thompkins, jugador de la sección de baloncesto) y el Juventus-Lyon (Italia es uno de los países con más casos de COVID-19 y el deporte italiano parará al menos hasta el 3 de abril). El estamento europeo aplazará tras esa reunión toda la Champions y la Europa League. Por lo tanto, aparte del partido que el Real Madrid tenía que disputar ante el Manchester City, tampoco el del Barça frente al Nápoles. La UEFA, ahora sí, valora muy seriamente aplazar la Eurocopa al verano de 2021, lo que obligaría a la suspensión de la Liga de Naciones y del Mundial de Clubes.
Las cinco primeras ligas de Europa (España, Inglaterra, Italia, Alemania y Francia) mantienen en este momento una videoconferencia con Giorgio Marchetti, director de competiciones de la UEFA, para resolver le colapso que esto supone para el calendario. Aunque Ceferin se niega en redondo a reconocer la única solución posible, el aplazamiento de la Eurocopa, es cuestión de tiempo que el presidente de la UEFA ceda y el torneo de selecciones pase al próximo verano.
La UEFA aplaza los torneos de las categorías inferiores
La UEFA, ante la situación generada por la expansión del coronavirus por Europa y las restricciones de viajes impuestas por distintos gobiernos, ha decidido suspender los próximos partidos de selecciones de categorías inferiores de competiciones continentales.
Así, ha anunciado que se aplazarán los torneos de las rondas elites de las categorías sub'17 y sub'19 de ambas categorías, que deberían disputars eentre el 14 de marzo y el 14 de abril.
"Se trata de una medida de precaución general, adoptada para evitar la posibilidad de que los jugadores -muchos de los cuales son menores- queden lejos de sus familias en caso de que los gobiernos anfitriones declaren cierres o cuarentenas", indica la UEFA en un comunicado, en el que advierte que anunciará próximamente la reprogramación de los torneos "tras una evaluación exhaustiva de las opciones".
