“No tenemos
que entrar en pánico, pero hay que monitorear la situación", dice el
presidente de la FIFA.
El presidente de
la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, no descarta que la Euro 2020 tenga que cancelarse
como medida preventiva al coronavirus, la epidemia que azota al mundo desde
hace semanas.
En unas
declaraciones recogidas por Reuters, y consultado acerca de si los partidos
internacionales de marzo, que incluyen playoffs y amistosos de cara a la Euro
2020, podrían cancelarse, Infantino contestó: “No puedo descartar nada en este
momento. Espero que nunca tengamos que entrar en esta dirección. Creo que en
cualquier caso será difícil hacer una prohibición global porque la situación
(en cada país) es realmente diferente”.
Aunque no
descarta ningún escenario, Infantino se ha mostrado optimista de cara a la
Eurocopa, que debería arrancar el 12 de junio en Italia. “Creo que la Euro
tendrá lugar en junio. Antes de eso, tenemos muchos partidos a nivel
internacional con muchos viajes involucrados. Así que creo que tenemos que
monitorear la situación. Y los responsables, el gobierno, las instituciones,
también toman decisiones sobre lo que está permitido y lo que no”, comentó.
Y agregó: “No
tenemos que entrar en pánico. Yo tampoco estoy personalmente preocupado. Pero
tenemos que mirarlo en serio. No podemos subestimar y decir que no es nada.
Aunque tampoco tenemos que reaccionar exageradamente y entrar en pánico.
Tenemos que seguir las instrucciones dadas por las autoridades “.
Además, el
directivo italiano dijo que “no se pueden imaginar unos meses de una
competición con varios partidos jugados a puerta cerrada“. Esto es en
referencia a la decisión tomada por la Serie A de jugar encuentros sin público
para evitar la expansión del coronavirus.
