Colón de Santa Fe sacó un triunfo histórico en la Copa Sudamericana ante un grande del continente como Sao Paulo. El 'Sabalero' ganó 1-0 y tiene el panorama claro para avanzar a octavos de final de la competencia.
El conjunto argentino salió victorioso de un partido dominado totalmente por el Sao Paulo y ahora solo necesita de un empate en casa en el partido de vuelta, el 16 de agosto en la ciudad de Santa Fe, para avanzar a octavos de final, fase en la que ya espera el Junior de Barranquilla colombiano.
El Sao Paulo, que desperdició numerosas oportunidades de gol y fue el claro dominador del partido, presionó desde el primer minuto, pero se chocó contra la férrea defensa del Colón.
El club paulista, que en la primera mitad fue el que más controló el balón (64 % del tiempo), falló sus cinco finalizaciones mientras que el Colón tan solo llegó una vez con peligro a la portería defendida por Jean.
Cuando el Sao Paulo más atacaba, el Colón aprovechó su primer contragolpe en el segundo tiempo y, con un potente disparo desde fuera del área, Matías Fritzler abrió el marcador para los visitantes en el minuto 79.
Con la importante ventaja parcial como visitante a menos de diez minutos del final del partido, Domínguez sacrificó a Javier Correa para reforzar aún más la muralla defensiva con el volante Adrian Bastía.
Con todo el conjunto argentino metido en el área de defensa, el Sao Paulo, pese a los últimos esfuerzos de Nenê, no consiguió acercarse a la portería rival y tuvo que resignarse con la derrota en casa y con la expulsión en el último minuto del atacante Brenner.
