Doucouré puso por delante al equipo del ex barcelonista, pero el Brighton empató gracias a un autogol de Mariappa.
Un autogol de Adrian Mariappa impidió al Watford de Gerard Deulofeu ganar este sábado en el campo del Brighton, con lo que el equipo de Nigel Pearson no logró abandonar la zona de descenso (1-1). El Watford, que sigue penúltimo, ahora empatado a puntos con el West Ham (antepenúltimo y que este domingo visita al Manchester City de Pep Guardiola), no vence desde el 12 de enero (0-3 al Bournemouth) y por su parte el Brighton, 15º, no ha ganado ningún encuentro en 2020.
El ex barcelonista Gerard Deulofeu, sustituido en el 85’, luchó en el Amex Stadium, pero no pudo brillar en un partido incómodo en que fue el Brighton de Graham Potter el que dominó y tuvo la posesión de balón.
Doucouré avanza al Watford
El Watford necesitaba un triunfo que le permitiera salir de la zona de descenso y lo cierto es que logró avanzarse en el campo del Brighton gracias a un gran gol de Abdoulaye Doucouré, que no sólo inició la jugada emprendiendo una carrera en solitario tras recibir un balón de Etienne Capoué sino que la culminó marcando con un gran disparo desde la frontal del área que batió a Mathew Ryan, que disputaba su partido número 100 con la camiseta del Brighton. Era el minuto 19.
El equipo de Deulofeu supo defender su ventaja. El Brighton buscó insistentemente el gol, presionando alto al Watford, pero el tanto no llegaba. Ben Foster, su portero, estuvo providencial desviando el balón en una gran ocasión de Aaron Moy.
Hasta que el 1-1 llegó a causa de un autogol en el 78’ del internacional jamaicano Adrian Mariappa, que evitó la derrota del Brighton, equipo lleva ya siete encuentros sin ganar. Un centro desde la banda derecha fue interceptado por el zaguero, que llevó la pelota a la red de su propia portería. Ambos equipos, nerviosos, buscaron hasta el final el tanto del triunfo, pero el encuentro acabó 1-1.
