El Arsenal afronta su primer gran partido en la nueva era "gunner" dirigida por Unai Emery. El Arsenal que viene de una mala temporada en la que no logró alcanzar los puestos de Champions League, quedaron en sexta posición, a 37 puntos del campeón de la Premier League, el Manchester City de Pep Guardiola. Ahora, tras la marcha del eterno entrenador del Arsenal Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery buscará reconducir al equipo de Londres al lugar donde debería de estar, con un bloque muy competitivo que si logra encontrar la regularidad, puede optar por grandes cosas esta temporada.

Comienza la andadura "gunner" en la International Champions Cup
El Arsenal comenzará la International Champions Cup frente al Atlético de Madrid. Esto supondrá una gran prueba de nivel para el Arsenal, que dará verdadera información a Emery, para ver como llegan sus jugadores al comienzo de la Premier League. Hasta la fecha, el Arsenal ha disputado tan solo un partido de pretemporada frente al Boreham Wood, donde el Arsenal se impuso por un contundente resultado de 0-8. En este encuentro destacó la figura de Aubameyang, que fue capaz de anotar 3 goles en menos de 20 minutos. Además, sus dos acompañantes en el ataque Lacazette y Mkhitaryan, también lograron anotar. Por último, cabe destacar a los jovenes canteranos Nelson, Nketiah y Reine Adelaide que aprovecharon muy bien sus minutos, anotando un gol cada uno de ellos.
Los "colchoneros" quieren más esta temporada
El equipo de Simeone comienza la temporada con ganas de mejorar lo obtenido la temporada anterior. El Atlético que logró levantar la Europa League la pasada temporada, buscará en esta nueva campaña levantar el otro título europeo, la Champions League del que se han quedado tan cerca los últimos años. Para ello, Enrique Cerezo ha fichado a grandes nombres como Rodrigo, Gelson Martins o Thomas Lemar con los que buscará dar un salto de calidad a la plantilla, para lograr levantar la Champions League en su casa, el Wanda Metropolitano. De momento, la aventura de los de Simeone comienza frente al Arsenal, primer partido preparatorio con el que buscarán ir cogiendo la forma para el gran partido que les enfrenta al Real Madrid en la Supercopa de Europa.
Historial entre ambos equipos
Atlético de Madrid y Arsenal se vuelven a ver las caras después de la gran eliminatoria que les enfrentó la pasada Europa League, en la que ambos equipos se disputaban un puesto en la final. Al final se impuso el equipo de Simeone por la mínima y se acabarían llevando el título en la final frente al Marsella.
En las horas previas al partido, Simeone ha dado sus impresiones de lo que supone jugar este tipo de torneos: "Estoy contento de volver a competir en un torneo muy bonito, para el cual hace muchos años que trabajamos para insertarnos como club, quiere decir que el club crece y se posiciona en lugares importantes. Competiremos ante dos equipos muy importantes".
Por su parte, Emery fue más breve en sus declaraciones, y respondió a la pregunta de como ve al equipo diciendo esto:
"Estoy muy contento con el trabajo diario del equipo y con el rendimiento de los jugadores"
Convocatorias
El "Cholo" Simeone presenta a un equipo lleno de jóvenes para este partido, ya que gran parte del equipo disputó el Mundial de Rusia y esto provoca que sus incorporaciones al equipo no sean todavía posibles para Simeone. Del equipo titular, solo cuenta hasta la fecha con Oblak, Juanfran, Thomas y Correa.
Por su parte, Unai Emery cuenta con la gran parte de la plantilla, solo a la espera de la llegada de Torreira y Xhaka que todavía están en sus correspondientes vacaciones.
