El Rangers terminó ganando por 1-2 en un partido en el que Alfredo Morelos no anotó, pero acabó expulsado con el tiempo casi cumplido por una simulación.
Los primeros minutos no fueron nada sencillos para el Rangers. El Celtic comenzó más intenso y sobre el minuto 33 de la primera parte tuvo la posibilidad de irse en ventaja a través de un penalti. Sin embargo, Ryan Christie no disparó de la mejor manera y Allan McGregor terminó atajando su disparo para evitar que se abriera el marcador.
Al Celtic le cayó como un jarro de agua fría esto, pues tan sólo tres minutos después, el Rangers logró irse en ventaja a través del gol de Ryan Kent. El jugador inglés recibió un pase de su compañero Borna Barisic y, sin dudarlo en un sólo instante, sacó un remate fuerte al palo derecho del arquero para poner el 0-1.
Sin embargo, el Celtic no bajó los brazos y a falta de tres minutos para que se acabara el primer tiempo, Odsonne Édouard puso el 1-1 parcial tras una asistencia de Callum McGregor.
Para la segunda parte habrían aún más sorpresas. El Rangers no quería irse sin los tres puntos y salió con la intención de aumentar el marcador por todos los medios. En el minuto 56 el equipo de Morelos consiguió poner tierra de por medio con una nueva asistencia de Barisic. Esta vez, el croata le puso el balón a Nikola Katic desde el córner para que el defensor se elevara por lo aires y enviara el balón al fondo de la red.
El Rangers celebró la victoria por todo lo alto. Sin embargo, el único punto negativo del partido para el equipo de Gerrard fue la expulsión de Morelos. El colombiano recibió la doble amarilla después de simular una falta, la cual el árbitro no dejó pasar y terminó expulsándolo del terreno de juego.
Aunque Morelos volvió a sumar una nueva expulsión, el Rangers se va contento de su visita a Celtic Park, ya que se queda a dos puntos con la posibilidad de alcanzarlos en la primera posición, pues tienen un partido menos.
