Agüero y De Bruyne, con sendos goles, le dieron aire al Manchester City en un partido muy trabajado por los de Pep, que tuvieron a un gran rival enfrente, el sorprendente Sheffield United. Con este triunfo, el City se pone a 14 puntos del líder, el Liverpool, pero los 'reds' tienen un partido menos (ante el West Ham).
Un partido en el que tuvo una intervención decisiva el VAR: primero, anulando por fuera de juego de centímetros un gol a Mousset (Sheffield); y, segundo, en un polémico primer gol del City. La jugada se origina en un pase fallido del Sheffield, que es molestado, que no interceptado, por el árbitro. Los jugadores visitantes protestaron que el colegiudo obstaculizó a su jugador a la hora de recepcionar un pase que acabó en botas del Kun Agüero, que marcó el 1-0.
La asistencia, por cierto, fue del belga De Bruyne, que se convierte en el máximo asistente de las cinco grandes Ligas de Europa, con 12.
Con este triunfo, Pep llega a los 100 triunfos en Premier, logro que le ha costado 134 partidos. Un récord que supera los 142 que le costó a Mourinho; los 159 que consumió Klopp; o los 162 partidos que tuvo que entrenar Ferguson para llegar a esos 100 triunfos,.
El Sheffield le planteó un partido muy complicado al City, con muchas trampas, sobre todo en la primera parte,y con algunos contragolpes peligrosísimos, como uno que acabó en el citado gol anulado de Lys Mousset. No subió al marcador. El francés fue una pesadilla en velocidad y daba muchos dolores de cabeza al City en balones largos.
El Sheffield demostró desde el principio que es un equipo muy bien trabajado por el modesto técnico Chris Wilder, con el que el United ascendió este verano y que es un auténtico ídolo en la ciudad de Sheffield. Y todo con un once bastante anónimo, en el que no se puede contar ni una sola figura. Uno de los planteles más modestos de toda la Premier.
Pep introdujo cambios en defensa, ante la baja de Stones. Otamendi se quedó en el banquillo y el español Eric García fue titular junto al brasileño Fernandinho. Rodri fue, como siempre, titular, y Sergio Agüero -que apenas tocó la pelota dentro del área en el primer tiempo- tuvo su lugar en el once tras la titularidad interrumpida por la roja a Ederson en el choque ante el Wolves. Los tres partidos de sanción a Ederson empezaron a ser suplidos por el chileno Bravo.
En la segunda parte hubo dominio alterno, en un partido bonito, con algunas ocasiones por parte de ambos equipos. El gol del Kun (minuto 52) definió mucho ya el partido, con la polémica que hemos resaltado y que dará que hablar en las ruedas de prensa.
El partido lo 'mató' Kevin de Bryune, con un buen gol al contragolpe en el 82'. Ahí se decidió ya todo.
Lo que está claro es que el City sigue sin estar bien, pese al triunfo, que fue merecido pero quizá excesivo. Sufre en defensa, sobre todo, con balones al espacio. Y en ataque, sólo Sterling y De Bruyne siguen a buen nivel. Y el Kun, que regresó a la senda del gol. Pero no hay noticias de Bernando Silva, Mahrez, David Silva...
