BBC realizó diversas votaciones sobre los grandes hechos de la década y el
argentino recibió una gran distinción.
Más allá de la
interminable discusión acerca del final de la década, si es el 31 de diciembre
del 2019 o del 2020, la BBC decidió realizar varios balances de los últimos
diez años de la Premier League de acuerdo a la votación de sus lectores. Y en
uno de los más importantes, el destacado fue un argentino.
No podía ser otro
que Sergio Agüero el elegido como "el jugador ícono de la década",
después de llevar a Manchester City a la gloria después de 40 años y de
mantenerlo en lo más alto desde el primer título logrado en la temporada
2011-12. Justamente su agónico gol de volea ante Queens Park Rangers, para pasar
del 3-1 al 3-3 en la última jornada y consagrarse campeón, quedó en el tercer
puesto de los momentos más importantes de esta era.
El Kun consiguió
el 26% de los votos y superó a James Milner, que logró el 12%, mientras que
Jeremy Vardy, goleador en el inesperado título de Leicester, quedó tercero con
el 11%.
Desde su llegada
a Manchester a mediados del 2011, el delantero surgido en Independiente disputó
251 partidos, en los cuales convirtió 173 goles, que lo transformaron en el
sexto máximo goleador de la Premier League, además de ser, con una importante
ventaja, el que más veces convirtió en la historia de su propio club. Además, supera
los 20 goles en cada temporada desde la 2014-15 y ganó cuatro veces el certamen
inglés. Así, la elección como el emblema de la década es totalmente
indiscutible.
