Italia, el país que dominó el fútbol europeo en los años 60 (Inter y Milán) y 80 (Milán y Juventus), está de vuelta. Su jerarquía se fue diluyendo cayendo a más en la última década, pero ha levantado el vuelo y hoy es la única de las grandes ligas europeas que le aguanta el ritmo a la todopoderosa Premier League en cuanto a dinero invertido en fichajes.
Para la temporada 2018-19, los ingleses llevan gastados 935 millones; los italianos, 875. España las mira de lejos con 527.
Estas cifras son estimativas de cómo se está moviendo el mercado, pero no definitivas. Hay que valorar que si la Premier y la Serie A están siendo las más madrugadoras a la hora de fichar, están condicionadas porque el plazo de sus mercados también cierra antes: el inglés lo hace el 9 de agosto; el italiano, el 19. En España, Alemania y Francia los clubes pueden contratar hasta el 31 de agosto.
Es la Juve la que está tirando del carro de Italia. Ha realizado los tres fichajes más caros de la Serie A. A Cristiano (117 millones) se suman Cancelo (40,4) y Douglas Costa (40). El club bianconeri es el que más dinero han invertido en Europa, 212 millones. Más que cualquier británico, cuya lista la lidera el Liverpool con 182 millones. Italia es el único país donde dos clubes han sobrepasado la cifra de 100 millones de inversión: la Juve (212,9) y el Roma (133,4), encabezando Malcom (32), Pastore (25) y Justin Kluivert (17) el listado romanista.
Para quienes piensen que en Italia se han vuelto locos, un estudio de la consultora KPMG afirma que es viable que la Juve rentabilice en dos o tres años los 340 millones de gasto en Cristiano (fichaje y sueldo).
Llamativo, por inédito, es lo que está sucediendo en la Bundesliga, donde el Bayern todavía no ha gastado ni un euro y guarda en caja los 40 millones de la venta de Douglas Costa.
Francia también es otro mercado dormido. Su gasto de 314 millones está inflado por los 135 del fichaje de Mbappé, pues es ahora cuando el PSG ha pagado para sortear el fair play financiero de la FIFA.
