La historia de Pablo Marí, el único español que ha ganado la Copa Libertadores en toda la historia, es apasionante. En junio estaba luchando con el Dépor por subir a Primera. Y mañana, con su Flamengo brasileño, disputará la finalísima del Mundial de Clubes ante el Liverpool. "Lo peor que me puede pasar es ser subcampeón del mundo. Tengo el privilegio de estar aquí. Ser campeón sería sólo la guinda", nos dice Pablo desde el Hotel Hyatt de Doha, lugar de concentración del Fla.
Marí, valenciano de Almussafes, está viviendo un sueño a sus 26 años. "Estoy muy orgulloso de haber elegido este club. Supongo que a muchos jugadores se lo ofrecieron y sólo yo me arriesgué a venir a América". Y le está saliendo perfecto. En un mes ya ha ganado la citada Libertadores y el Brasileirao. Le quedan este Mundial y la Recopa.
Los títulos colectivos con el Flamengo se han complementado, además, con los individuales (mejor central de la Liga y en el once ideal) que le dio la CBF hace unas semanas -en la imagen-. Y todo, viniendo de la Segunda española. En junio aún estaba con el Dépor luchando en los 'playoffs' por el ascenso.
Así cuenta cómo fichó por el Fla: "Arturo Canales -su representante- nos planteó las opciones y tuve que elegir. Lo hice con mi mujer... y con serenidad. Y nos gustó mucho este proyecto. Que un grande de América me diera esa oportunidad era irrechazable, a pesar de tener que dejar la familia lejos", nos dice Marí.
Enfrente, este sábado estará el gran Liverpool. Casi nada. Esto nos dice sobre su trío atacante: Salah-Firmino-Mané: "¡Son tan buenos los tres!, pero muy distintos. Llevo mucho tiempo viéndolos por la tele y ahora jugaré ante ellos. Firmino me sacará de posición, pero el míster me insta a buscarles. Es más difícil marcar a ésos que te sacan, pero los hemos estudiado mucho. Con Salah habrá que intentar no medirse en velocidad, porque te la lía. Vi su semi ante Rayados y es increíble verlo en el campo. Tiene velocidad con y sin balón. Es complicado de marcar. Te busca allá donde estés".
Flamengo es de los clubes más grandes del mundo, al menos en afición, pero ganarle al Liverpool sería un sorpresón... o no: "En América -dice Pablo- somos muy grandes. Vamos a jugar a seis horas lejos de casa y nos vienen a ver 60.000. Es increíble. Pero es verdad que en Europa se minimiza un poco el fútbol sudamericano por los grandes clubes que tienen allí. Si ganamos, reivindicaremos el fútbol sudamericano en Europa. Sería un boom dar a entender al mundo que en Brasil hay buen fútbol local".
Dato concluyente: desde 2012 ningún americano le gana este torneo a un club europeo (Corinthians al Chelsea): "Europa tiene un fútbol muy grande y nadie se plantea jugar aquí, como hice yo. El Liverpool es el campeón, pero... yo quiero otra final épica -como fue la de la Libertadores ante River, con remontada en los últimos minutos-. Esto es deporte y puede ganal cualquiera. Aquí, en Brasil, hay mucho talento y en nuestras manos está darle un poco más de gloria al fútbol americano".
En su pueblo natal todos lo verán con entusiasmo: "Me dicen que salgamos a por ellos. Que podemos vencer". Es la historia de Pablo. Suerte.
