
Con el equipo
más joven de su historia en partido oficial, los Sub-23 ‘reds’ caen eliminados
en los cuartos de final de la Copa de la Liga inglesa contra el Aston Villa.
El Liverpool de
Jürgen Klopp, que mañana miércoles se juega contra el Monterrey el pase a la
final del Mundial de Clubs, estuvo muy pendiente esta tarde de martes de la
otra semifinal, donde el Flamengo derrotó al Al Hilal, pero también de lo que
pasaba poco después muy lejos de Qatar. Y es que en Birmingham, el club ‘red’
también afrontó el duelo de cuartos de final de la Copa de la Liga inglesa, de
donde quedó fuera después de caer 5-0 en Villa Park.
Lo jugó, eso sí,
con su equipo sub-23 ya que el duelo no se aplazó y el primer equipo está desde
el domingo en Doha. Poco pudo hacer el ‘Baby’ Liverpool, que presentó el equipo
con una media de edad (19,4 años) más baja de su historia en partido oficial,
contra un equipo de Premier League como el Aston Villa, que tuvo suficiente con
media parte para sellar la victoria.
Hourihane (14’),
Boyes en propia portería (17’), y Jonathan Kodjia (37’ y 45’) por partida doble
hicieron que el segundo tiempo fuera un trámite. Aun así, el Liverpool tuvo un
par de ocasiones en los primeros diez minutos, todavía con 0-0, para dar la
sorpresa. Pero ni Harvey Elliott (16 años), Kane (21 años), acertaron ante el
portero ‘villano’, Nyland. La lógica se fue imponiendo y con el contundente 4-0
al descanso, los ‘villanos’ no hicieron mucha más sangre.
De hecho, solo
hubo un gol más después del descanso, obra de Wesley (92’) ya en el tiempo de
descuento. Como dato curioso y a la vez revelador de la singularidad del duelo,
el dorsal número 51 que lució el lateral derecho de los ‘reds’, el holandés
Ki-Jana Hoever, que ya debutó la temporada pasada, fue el más bajo de los 14
jugadores que actuaron, en una noche extraña para el Liverpool pero que
permitió ver en acción a algunas de sus jóvenes perlas. Neil Critchley, el
técnico del Liverpool Sub-23, era el técnico. Solo cuatro jugadores llegaban a
los 20 años, uno de ellos el centrocampista español Pedro Chirivella.
Con este plácido
triunfo, el Aston Villa es el primer clasificado para las semifinales de la
Copa de la Liga inglesa. Mañana se disputarán los otros partidos de cuartos de
final: Oxford-Manchester City; Everton-Leicester; y Manchester
United-Colchester.
