El defensa
brasileño intentó volver a jugar pero los fuertes dolores se lo han impedido y
pone fin a su carrera a los 34 años.
Uno de los seis
supervivientes del accidente aéreo que sufrió el Chapecoense brasileño, el
defensa Neto, anunció que se retira a los 34 años. Neto pasó dos años
rehabilitándose de las secuelas que le produjo la catástrofe, en la que
murieron 71 personas en Colombia, y regresó a los entrenamientos en marzo. No
obstante, en una entrevista aseguró que sufría demasiado dolor como para volver
a jugar.
“Estoy
de acuerdo con los médicos y el club. “Quería un partido de despedida, pero
decidí no hacerlo”, explicó Neto a TV Globo. “Mi cuerpo no pudo soportarlo más.
Los dolores fueron más grandes que el placer”, añadió. Neto también afirmó que
el club, que arrastra diversas deudas, pensaba en mantenerlo como miembro de la
junta.
El avión de
Chapecoense se dirigía a Colombia, para disputar el partido de ida de su
primera final de la Copa Sudamericana, contra el Atlético Nacional, cuando se
quedó sin combustible cerca de Medellín y se estrelló. El conjunto del sur de
Brasil acabó recibiendo el título, sin que la final se llegara a jugar nunca.
Otros dos jugadores del Chapecoense sobrevivieron al accidente: Alan Ruschel, un
defensa de 30 años que todavía está activo y juega cedido en el Goias, y el
portero Jackson Follmann, que perdió parte de su pierna derecha pero tiene como
objetivo poder convertirse en atleta paralímpico.

El 2017, un año
después de la tragedia, el Barça invitó al Chapecoense al Trofeo Joan Gamper,
donde los jugadores supervivientes del accidente recibieron un emotivo
recibimiento y se celebró un homenaje a las víctimas. El capitán Alan Ruschel
fue el único que pudo jugar aquel día.
