El Bayer Leverkusen empezó su andadura en la Champions League 2019-20 de la peor manera, perdiendo sus tres primeros partidos ante el Lokomotiv de Moscú (1-2), la Juventus (3-0) y el Atlético de Madrid (1-0). Sin embargo, en la segunda vuelta del grupo D, los de Bosz están demostrando una cara totalmente diferente.
Tras imponerse (2-1) al conjunto 'colchonero' en la pasada jornada, el Bayer triunfó (0-2) en Moscú ante el Lokomotiv y, de tener cero puntos tras los cuatro primeros duelos, suma ahora seis puntos y hasta sueña con octavos. Con un punto menos que el Atlético de Madrid, los 'farmacéuticos' esperan que el cuadro de Simeone no gane en Turín ante la Juventus para llegar a la última ronda con opciones de acceder a octavos.
El partido estuvo marcado por un ida y vuelta que no es demasiado usual en la Champions League. Ningún equipo logró hacerse con el control de la contienda y, en ese contexto, la superior calidad de los alemanes marcó diferencias. Liderados por una gran actuación de Kerem Demirbay en la medular, el tanto en propia puerta de Rifat Zhemaletdinov y el gran gol de Sven Bender garantizaron los tres puntos para los visitantes.
El Leverkusen de Bosz es un equipo muy irregular. Posee centrocampistas ofensivos y atacantes de calidad pero no tiene un funcionamiento colectivo que saque lo mejor de sus individualidades. Aún sin el lesionado Havertz, estas características fueron evidentes en Moscú. El 'Loko' hasta empezó mejor, con un gol anulado a Aleksey Miranchuk debido a fuera de juego, pero la suerte acompaño al equipo visitante. En el 11', un despeje de Éder acertó en Zhemaletdinov y el balón se terminó colando en la portería de Guilherme.
Con el 0-1 el luminoso, el Leverkusen, en su partido 100 en la Champions, rozó el segundo. Demirbay, el mejor jugador del partido, y Diaby estuvieron cerca del 0-2, pero se toparon con el acierto de Guilherme, portero nacido en Brasil que es nacionalizado ruso. En un primer tiempo con muchas ocasiones, Éder -en una acción muy semejante a la de su gol en la final de la Euro 2016- y Anton Miranchuk también estuvieron muy cerca de marcar.
En la segunda mitad, el Leverkusen cerró el encuentro con la mejor acción que se vio sobre el césped de Moscú. Aránguiz, con una gran asistencia, le puso el balón a Sven Bender, que con un gran disparo con la zurda anotó el primer gol europeo de su carrera. Y lo hizo por todo lo alto.
El 'Loko' acuso el 0-2. Aleksey Miranchuk no lo paró de intentar, pero el mediapunta ruso estuvo bastante desacompañado. El Leverkusen nunca tuvo capacidad para gestionar su avanzo en el marcador a través de la posesión, pero logró lo más importante. Ahora, les toca a los alemanes torcer por el triunfo 'juventino' ante el Atlético de Madrid.
