En la Liga MX, Chivas tiene la misma principal
característica que la Selección mexicana.
Por historia,
Chivas es considerado como el club más mexicano, esto por una regla establecida
en los estatutos de la institución que no permite incorporar jugadores
extranjeros.
Y es por los
mismos lineamientos que el Rebaño únicamente ha contado entre sus filas con
futbolistas con pasaporte mexicano, sean nacidos en territorio nacional o con
raíces tricolores.
Esta misma regla
no ha podido replicarse en la Liga MX por ninguno de los otros 18 clubes, pues
torneo a torneo se decantan por incorporar extranjeros, mismos que fortalecen
sus plantillas pero a la vez cierran los espacios para quienes pintan como
promesas.
Aunque en un
principio contaron con jugadores belgas, franceses, españoles y mexicanos, fue
hasta la década de los 40, cuando entraron al profesionalismo, que decidieron
sólo tener mexicanos por nacimiento.
De ahí vinieron hombres que dejaron una huella en la historia como Pablo ‘Pablotas’ González, Fausto y Max Prieto y José ‘Pelón’ Gutiérrez, además de leyendas como Salvador Reyes Monteón, Sabas Ponce, Guillermo ‘Tigre’ Sepúlveda, Juan ‘Bigotón’ Jasso, Jaime ‘Tubo’ Gómez, Héctor Hernández, Ignacio Calderón, Ramón Ramírez y Javier ‘Zully’ Ledesma.
Pese a que no hay un libreto, jugar con puros mexicanos es una característica ineludible en su organización, que así como en muchas ocasiones les juega a favor, también en contra en la necesidad de contratar refuerzos, pues para ellos los precios son mucho más altos en contraste con otras instituciones.
