El Manchester United intentará fichar a Toni Kroos este verano. Según pudo saber este periódico, José Mourinho, técnico de los red devils, mantuvo en los últimos días una reunión con Ed Woodward, vicepresidente ejecutivo del United, en la que dibujó el boceto del equipo para la 2018-19 y en él estaba el nombre del centrocampista alemán del Real Madrid. Mourinho considera a Kroos como la pieza que podría ser fundamental para vertebrar el centro del campo del United y complementar a Pogba por lo que, para satisfacer los deseos de su entrenador, el club inglés está dispuesto a hacer una gran oferta por el ex del Bayern.
Mourinho es consciente de la complejidad de la operación. En el Madrid no se plantean la salida de un jugador que, tras su golazo a Suecia en este Mundial y a pesar de la eliminación de Alemania, sigue cotizando al alza. Además, se ha convertido en un pilar en el Real Madrid. Con Ancelotti, con Benítez y, por último, con Zidane. Con 190 partidos en cuatro temporadas como madridista (12 goles y 54 asistencias), es, junto a Modric y Casemiro, la referencia del centro del campo blanco. Pero la baza del United es querer convencer a un jugador que lleva ya cuatro años en el Madrid, y al que le plantearían ser en Old Trafford uno de los líderes del nuevo proyecto, que emprenda una nueva y ambiciosa aventura en la Premier.
En el Madrid no se ponen nerviosos. El 14 de octubre de 2016 renovaron a Kroos hasta 2022 (tiene cuatro años más de contrato) y le aumentaron la ficha de 10,9 millones de euros brutos a 20. Además, su cláusula es de 500 millones de euros, cantidad a la que el club blanco se remitirá cuando reciba formalmente una propuesta por un jugador que ven fundamental para el nuevo proyecto de Lopetegui.
