El centrocampista Edwin Cardona, del Pachuca mexicano, es la principal novedad de la lista de 40 jugadores que hizo el seleccionador de Colombia, el portugués Carlos Queiroz, para la Copa América de Brasil.
Cardona, de 26 años, recibe así su primera convocatoria desde que el portugués asumió la dirección técnica de la Cafetera y regresa después de un año, pues el argentino José Pekerman lo puso en la lista preliminar al Mundial de Rusia 2018, pero no lo llevó.
Los números avalan a Cardona, que en la liga mexicana de este año ha disputado 14 partidos en los que ha anotado seis tantos y servido 11 asistencias.
Otras vueltas importantes
En la lista también sobresale el regreso de Juan Guillermo Cuadrado (Juventus-ITA), quien se perdió de las últimas convocatorias por una lesión en el menisco externo y de la fractura de cartílago de la rodilla izquierda.
Vuelve además el lateral Frank Fabra (Boca Juniors-ARG), que regresó a las canchas en marzo pasado tras recuperarse de la ruptura del ligamento cruzado anterior de la rodilla izquierda el 9 de junio de 2018, días antes del comienzo del Mundial de Rusia.
De igual forma, Queiroz le abre las puertas de la selección con esta convocatoria a los porteros Aldair Quintana (Atlético Huila), Diego Novoa (La Equidad) y Éder Chaux (Patriotas), así como al centrocampista Raúl Loaiza (San Lorenzo-ARG) y a los delanteros Andrés Ibargüen (América-MEX) y Yairo Moreno (Santos Laguna-MEX).
En la convocatoria también sobresalen figuras como el portero David Ospina (Nápoles-ITA), el central Davinson Sánchez (Tottenham-ING), el lateral Santiago Arias (Atlético-ESP), el centrocampista James Rodríguez (Bayern-ALE) y los goleadores Radamel Falcao García (Mónaco-FRA) y Duván Zapata (Atalanta-ITA).
Un grupo difícil
Colombia está en el Grupo B de la Copa América, donde se enfrentará con Argentina, Paraguay y Catar, uno de los dos países invitados al torneo junto con Japón. Al final, así quedó la lista de 40 nombres para la Copa América 2019.
