El club 'esmeralda' emitió un comunicado oficial posterior a la reprogramación del partido de ida de semifinales del Clausura 2019 frente al América en el Estadio Azteca.
A raíz de la Contingencia Extraordinaria que decretó la Comisión Ambiental de la Megalópolis en conjunto con el gobierno de la Ciudad de México, la Liga MX optó por cambiar de fecha el partido de ida de las semifinales del Clausura 2019 entre América y León en el Estadio Azteca, originalmente calendarizado para el miércoles 15 de mayo a las 19:30 horas; ahora, confirmado para el jueves 16 de mayo, a las 20:30. Con lo cual, el cierre de la serie semifinal también se recorre: en lugar de disputarse el sábado, el partido de vuelta será el domingo 19 en el Nou Camp de León. La medida significa un día de descanso extra para el América, pues 'Las Águilas' sellaron su clasificación a las semifinales la noche del domingo, al eliminar al Cruz Azul en los cuartos de final con global de 4-3.

Después de darse a conocer la reprogramación del cotejo, el Club León se solidarizó con la contingencia en su postura oficial. "No hay nada más importante que la salud de los ciudadanos", reza el mensaje publicado en sus redes sociales, en el que también se refirió a la decisión de atrasar el partido solo un día en plena emergencia ambiental: "Como institución consideramos que el partido debe jugarse en condiciones ambientales óptimas para todos. Confiamos en que dichas condiciones puedan cumplirse con la nueva fecha programada". El comunicado cierra con una declaración de intenciones en pos del campeonato de liga, que sería el octavo de su historia: "Defendiendo los ideales y valores de nuestra institución, jugadores, cuerpo técnico y afición, lucharemos por el título en cualquier circunstancia".
En las primeras horas del martes 14 de mayo, la Comisión Ambiental de la Megalópolis y el gobierno de la Ciudad de México activaron la Contingencia Extraordinaria a causa de la mala calidad del aire en el Valle de México, que ha presentado altos niveles de partículas tóxicas PM 2.5, a raíz de varios incendios forestales que han asolado los alrededores de la zona metropolitana de la capital. La Contingencia conmina a los ciudadanos a evitar actividades al aire libre de cualquier tipo, así como mantenerse en espacios cerrados, con ventanas cerradas, evitar la cocción de alimentos con leña, carbón o gas, entre otras medidas.
