Thomas Muller has traded Munich for Vancouver
Thomas Muller has officially signed for the Vancouver Whitecaps, joining the MLS side after 25 years at Bayern Munich.
While the German veteran was a free agent, the Whitecaps had to acquire his disvovery rights from FC Cincinnati, which were worth around $400,000. Read more about how the league's Discovery Rights work here.
Joining the club immediately, he'll be available for the remainder of the 2025 campaign, which has thus far been a successful one for his new club, who sit seocnd in the Western Conference after 24 matches. They're just a point behind leaders San Diego and have a game in hand on them.
The 35-year-old's deal also includes an option for him to be a Designated Player for the club in 2026, meaning he'll most likely be there until the end of next year at the least.

“I’ve heard great things about the city, but first and foremost I’m coming to win. I’ve had great conversations with Axel Schuster (CEO) and Jesper Sorensen (manager), and now I can’t wait to play in front of the supporters and to see all of the fans come out to BC Place as we head towards the playoffs.”
After leaving Bayern upon the expiration of his contract, Muller turned down approaches from Cincinnati and LAFC, opting to join the Canadian club instead.
