Cucurella explains why Madueke's Arsenal move confused him: He missed a good opportunity
Marc Cucurella believes Noni Madueke made a mistake leaving Chelsea's Club World Cup camp early this summer.
Madueke joining the Gunners in a 352m deal certainly turned a few heads this summer as Arsenal took an unwanted player off Chelsea’s hands once again which frustrated fans who were left scratching their heads as to what the club’s strategy is.0
The winger returned to England from the Club World Cup in order to complete the transfer after making 5 appearances as the Blues made their way towards the final. Chelsea of course made it to the final and smashed Paris Saint-Germain in an easy 3-0 win as they lifted the silverware next to President Donald Trump.0
Cucurella was baffled by his ex-team-mate deciding to jump ship while his side were on the cusp of silverware and recently spoke about how he could have waited until the tournament was finished. Asked if he thought the decision was strange, he replied: 0
"Yes, I think so.0
"I think he missed a good opportunity (although) he wasn’t playing as a starter.0
"I do think it was because of everything that was happening regarding his future and in the end I think it could have delayed him a couple of days since he left a day early or something like that.0
"It wouldn’t have cost him anything to wait for that next day. In the end I think he missed a pretty good opportunity."0
The 23-year-old leaves Chelsea after three seasons at Stamford Bridge during which time he scored 20 goals in 92 appearances across all competitions. He joins Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga as major signings at Arsenal so far this summer in what is a major revamp under manager Mikel Arteta.0
