Chelsea FC v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League
Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is reportedly set for a £25 million ($34m) Bournemouth move with a five-year contract in the works after the two clubs reached a "total agreement". The move comes after Bournemouth accelerated talks with Chelsea earlier this week as they seek to fill the void left by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s return to Stamford Bridge and subsequent sale to Arsenal.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to The Athletic, Petrovic has been granted permission by the Blues to undergo a medical next week at the Cherries. He spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club in Ligue 1, which is also owned by the BlueCo group. He featured in 31 matches for the French side, playing a vital role in their seventh-place finish that secured a UEFA Conference League spot. His standout displays earned him the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Season award.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Despite his strong performances in France, it was made clear to Petrovic upon his return to west London that his long-term future would lie elsewhere. Chelsea had honoured a gentleman’s agreement allowing the 25-year-old to leave if a club met the £25 million asking price, a figure Bournemouth are now ready to match.
DID YOU KNOW?
With Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen sharing goalkeeping duties last season and Enzo Maresca reportedly keen on ball-playing keepers, Petrovic’s chances of becoming first choice looked slim. However, he has already returned for pre-season in England and has been training at Cobham alongside other fringe players like Joao Felix, Ben Chilwell and Renato Veiga away from the main squad, who are competing in the United States in the Club World Cup.

WHAT NEXT FOR PETROVIC?
All that remains now is for Petrovic to pass his medical and formally agree on personal terms, steps that are expected to be completed early next week. Once confirmed, he will become one of Bournemouth’s marquee summer additions, joining a squad looking to push further up the Premier League table under manager Andoni Iraola.
