El delantero peruano Paolo Guerrero reafirmó su inocencia frente al caso de dopaje por el que estuvo suspendido 14 meses luego de la revelación de que habría sido víctima accidental de una "contaminación cruzada" con un té de coca en un hotel de Lima donde se hospedaba la selección inca en 2017.
"Yo siempre actué con la verdad, nunca mentí. No sé por qué no me creyeron pese a que yo presenté pruebas" ante la FIFA, declaró Guerrero la noche del domingo en el programa Cuarto Poder de América Televisión.
Según dos exempleados del hotel, Guerrero habría sido víctima accidental de una "contaminación cruzada" con té de coca, la hoja de una planta cultivada ancestralmente en los Andes de Perú y Bolivia, y materia prima de la cocaína.
"El agua (del té) ya vino contaminada directamente, entonces yo no tuve ninguna culpa. El TAS (Tribunal de Arbitraje Deportivo) me culpa que yo fui negligente, que debí comprobar que era un té y no un mate de coca", señaló el delantero. El hotel "impidió que esta verdad se sepa y fue mintiendo y amenazando a sus trabajadores", añadió Guerrero desde Buenos Aires, donde está con su club, el brasileño Internacional, para enfrentar el martes a River Plate en la Copa Libertadores.
El caso estalló en 2017 durante el clasificatorio para el Mundial Rusia-2018, pero el Swissotel de Lima rechazó las versiones de sus exempleados, asegurando en un comunicado que ellos "buscan dañar la reputación" del establecimiento y que ha brindado "información veraz y oportuna a todas las entidades" que lo han requerido.

Habilitado por la Justicia suiza para disputar el Mundial-2018, Guerrero, de 35 años, debió cumplir el resto de la suspensión impuesta por el TAS tras la Copa en Rusia, luego de ser controlado positivo a un metabolito de cocaína tras un partido entre Perú y Argentina, el 5 de octubre de 2017 en Buenos Aires, por la clasificatoria sudamericana. "El daño psicológico y moral no tiene precio", dijo el máximo goleador del combinado peruano con 35 anotaciones.
En otro programa dominical, los exempleados Luis Escate y Anthony Obando dijeron que Guerrero resultó "contaminado accidentalmente" al consumir un té de limón, porque el hotel no cumplió los protocolos de limpieza de la loza. Tras los testimonios de los dos exempleados, la fiscalía "decidió abrir 30 días de investigación en torno a nuevos testimonios en caso de Paolo Guerrero, a fin de recabar declaraciones de los extrabajadores y representantes del Swissotel, entre otras pericias", informó el fiscal José Chipana.
Además, el abogado de Guerrero, Fernando Silva, dijo que alista una demanda civil por daños y perjuicios contra el hotel. Pero el abogado del Swissotel, Enrique Ghersi, insistió en que el establecimiento no tiene responsabilidad en el caso de Guerrero.
