Arsenal have reportedly reached a full agreement on personal terms with Valencia star Cristhian Mosquera. A new bid is said to be being prepared, with the Gunners believing they can conclude a deal with the La Liga side at just over £17million.
Valencia are widely reported to have turned down a £12m offer from Arsenal earlier this month. Mikel Arteta, Andrea Berta and Co. remained undettered and are reportedly set to submit a second proposal. Mosquera is one of Europe's most highly rated young defenders and would boost Arteta's options in his back line. The 21-year-old, who featured for Spain at the Under-21 European Championship this month, has already made 90 senior appearances for Valencia.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is strengthening his squad this summer
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Mosquera and now just need to see a bid accepted Valencia. They reportedly believe that a fee of just over £17m could be enough to complete a move.
Predominantly a centre-back, Mosquera will likely provide competition for William Saliba and Gabriel. Arteta also has Riccardo Calafiori, Jakub Kiwior and Ben White among his options for that position.
However, Mosquera has also played at right-back for Valencia. Jurrien Timber was Arteta's first choice on the right of the back four last season, with White sat on the sidelines for the majority of the season through injury.
Arsenal are set for a busy summer as they attempt to finally overcome Manchester City and Liverpool by winning the Premier League title next May. Mosquera is one of three players the north Londoners are either attempting to sign, or are seemingly ready to announce as new arrivals.
An agreement for Martin Zubimendi to join Arsenal in a £51m deal from Real Sociedad is widely believed to have been sealed. However, reports in Spain suggest that the selling club are waiting until July to fully formalise the move so that the money can go towards their 2025-26 accounts.
Arsenal are also closing in on a move to sign goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. Neto, who spent last season on loan at the Emirates Stadium, will return to Bournemouth. Incidentally, Arrizabalaga spent the 2024-25 campaign with the South Coast outfit on a temporary deal.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can complete a switch for a new striker. Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have both been linked.
Arsenal’s hopes of landing one of their top striker targets this summer have taken a significant blow, with BBC journalist Sami Mokbel stating that the Gunners have “less than a 2% chance” of completing the deal during this transfer window.Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are actively searching for a new centre-forward to add a clinical edge to the squad ahead of t...
