Marcus Rashford is likely to leave Manchester United this summer.
Marcus Rashford's dream move is reportedly to Barcelona
Marcus Rashford’s dream move to Barcelona FC could be back on with the La Liga club reportedly exploring a loan move for the Manchester United outcast. A move to Catalonia is widely reported to be Rashford’s preferred destination following his temporary spell at Aston Villa.
United are determined to sell the 27-year-old this summer to raise funds for a summer overhaul. Rashford seems unlikely to be welcomed back by head coach Ruben Amorim, who insisted that he would pick a goalkeeper coach over the England international last season. Reports claim that £62.5million signing Matheus Cunha has already been promised the No. 10 shirt that Rashford has worn at Old Trafford since 2018.
According to talkSPORT, Barca are preparing a loan offer for Rashford. Their precarious financial situation is likely to rule out a permanent switch.
Rashford proved his ability to continue playing at the top level on loan at Villa. He scored four goals and provided six assists for the Villans, who just missed out on Champions League football. Rashford is keen to remain in the top tier of European football, prompting his eagerness to move to Barca.
The report claims that head coach Hansi Flick is a fan of the forward’s versatility. Despite Barca’s reported pursuit of Nico Williams, the German believes Rashford could play in a number of positions, in addition to on the left of the front three.
Barca are reportedly at the front of the queue to land Williams from Athletic Bilbao. The Athletic claims that the Spain international has informed his club of his desire to join the Spanish giants in a deal that could be worth around £50m.
Any deal for Rashford or Williams will force Barca to make sure they have space in their salary cap to register them with La Liga. Javier Tebas, La Liga’s president, has claimed that the Spanish giants are still not in line with their salary limit rules, which could mean the club need to trim their wage bill or raise new revenue.
Meanwhile, United are keen to crack on with major surgery into Amorim’s squad. Funds raised through sales are likely to be partially spent on new additions. Cunha is the club’s only signing of the window so far, but there is reported interest in Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
United will face competition from Europa League nemeses Tottenham for the Cameroon international. Mbeumo flourished under Thomas Frank at Brentford, with the Dane since joining Spurs to replace Ange Postecoglou.
