Man Utd might have an advantage in the race for Hugo Ekitike
Manchester United might have an advantage in the race for Frankfurt standout Hugo Ekitike.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with United, Chelsea and Liverpool all credited with an interest in the Frenchman.
After joining from PSG in January 2024, Ekitike has been turning heads in Portugal - netting 26 goals and providing 14 assists in 64 games since the move.
And thanks to his clinical nature in front of goal, he won't move to Old Trafford on the cheap - and it is claimed the Bundesliga outfit will demand a fee of roughly £80m for the Frenchman.
However, United, despite missing out on European football thanks to a torrid season, might have an advantage due to the Frenchman's emotional connection to the club after he revealed in an interview with the Eintracht Frankfurt YouTube channel last year that he supported United as a child.
Also speaking to French outlet RTL in December 2024, he said: "My favourite club as a child was Manchester United. I’ve always admired them."
After finishing 15th in the Premier League this season, United have wasted no time in the transfer market and have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
United’s pursuit of Ekitike, and acquisition of Cunha, has increased speculation that Rasmus Hojlund will leave this summer. The Dane is currently being linked with a return to Serie A with Inter Milan.
Inter are keen on bringing him back to Serie A, with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that he is their number one target.
However, Manchester United have set an asking price of €45m (£38m) for the Denmark international and that is likely to be out of Inter’s reach.
As a result, the report from Gazzetta suggests the Nerazzurri will look to negotiate a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy next summer.
