Atletico Madrid are eyeing a sensational move for Liverpool's stalwart defender Andy Robertson as the Premier League champions near the completion of a deal for Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. The Scotland skipper has only one year left on his deal at Anfield and is presently set to be out of contract in summer 2026.
He recently admitted to "good discussions" about extending his stay but it appears he will no longer be the first-choice left-back next season regardless. Atletico Madrid seem ready to test Liverpool's determination to keep the 31-year-old, who is open to a move to the Spanish capital. PLG, which represents Robertson and is managed by Tyler, the brother of England star Trent Alexander-Arnold, is closely monitoring the situation.
Robertson's stint as the preferred choice at left-back is under threat from the imminent arrival of £45million prospect Kerkez, who is finalising his switch to the Reds.
Kerkez's absence from Hungary's recent line-ups, including Tuesday's Azerbaijan clash and the loss to Sweden, signals an impending announcement after his break.
With Kostas Tsimikas likely to part ways with Liverpool during the off-season, it leaves Robertson and newcomer Kerkez vying for the starting slot but Robertson would be first-choice at Atletico which is an offer that could entice him to end a long-term stay on Merseyside.
On the matter of his own future, Robertson said on Thursday: "We have discussed [my future], of course we have. We've had good discussions, me and the club, but what the future holds, I'm not sure.
"All I know is I fly off on holiday and it's well needed, I need a rest after a long season and then I look forward to pre-season. I know the position I'm in, I know I've only got a year left.
"A lot's getting spoken about it, a lot's getting said, but my pure focus is focusing on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids.
"Then I'll try and come back in the best shape possible for pre-season and then we'll see what the future holds when those decisions come."
