- Man Utd have reached out to Wolves for Cunha
- Ready to pay his £62.5m release clause
- Had wanted to pay in instalments
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to The Athletic, United have agreed to pay Cunha's £62.5m release clause after seeing their first official bid turned down by their Premier League rivals. Cunha’s release clause is set at £62.5 million ($84.4m), a figure that United are prepared to meet - they had hoped to pay the clause over five instalments but are now likely to pay over two, instead.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Midlands outfit have now given Cunha permission to travel for a medical with United, who will hope to finalise personal terms and complete the transfer. The club are hopeful they can sign him on the day the transfer window opens: June 1.
DID YOU KNOW?
Cunha has enjoyed his most prolific campaign to date, finding the back of the net 17 times in 36 appearances across all competitions. That includes 15 goals in the Premier League - more than any United player managed this term. His versatility and skillset make him an ideal fit for the tactical framework being developed by Ruben Amorim at United. The Brazilian is comfortable playing as a second striker or attacking midfielder and thrives in a 3-4-2-1 setup, where he can operate between the lines and link midfield to attack.
WHAT NEXT FOR CUNHA?
While discussions over Cunha’s transfer continue behind the scenes, United’s post-season schedule remains busy. The squad has embarked on a commercial tour across Asia, with friendly matches lined up in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
