Manchester United are reportedly creeping towards a permanent exit for under-fire striker Rasmus Hojlund. The Dane was pinched from Atalanta two years ago in a £72million deal, and a return to Serie A could be the likeliest course of action after two underwhelming seasons in the Premier League.
Hojlund finished the campaign with four league goals - the same amount Marcus Rashford managed before leaving on loan in the winter, and half as many as Amad Diallo, who played fewer minutes. Many United fans have become convinced that the 22-year-old cannot lead the line for Ruben Amorim's side, and club bosses are believed to be scouting out options for a summer departure.
According to InterLive, momentum is gathering around a swoop to take Hojlund to the San Siro. Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio, manager Simone Inzaghi and owners Oaktree Capital Management are all said to be in total agreement over a pursuit of the United flop.
And thankfully for the Red Devils, who will be eager to recoup some of the mammoth fee they shelled out in 2023, the transfer may involve a mechanism to shift Hojlund off the books permanently.
Inter are said to be attracted by the fact Hojlund would not command a huge transfer fee or wages. A four-year contract is believed to be in the works for the player, and the Nerazzurri are keen to do an initial loan deal with an option to buy, which would become compulsory when certain clauses are met.

Former United defender Phil Jones expressed sympathy for Hojlund when reflecting on the way his Old Trafford career has panned out. "I feel really sorry for him," he told OLBG.
"It's obviously been a difficult season for him, but I always find it's difficult for a No. 9 in a difficult season. He's probably not getting the chances, you know, the seven, eight chances a game. He's feeding off one or two that might come into him in the 70th minute, and he's got to produce. It hasn't quite happened for him yet.

United are expected to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves to bolster their attacking options once the transfer window opens on Sunday. Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is another high priority, with Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton also in hot pursuit.
