Ian Holloway hopes Swindon and Gillingham can put their bad blood behind them after their feisty 1-1 draw.
There is an old storied rivalry between the two clubs and there were handbags late on, which resulted in Joe Gbode’s late sending off.
Gbode put the hosts in front before Will Wright levelled with a brilliant free-kick six minutes later.
Gillingham ended the game with nine men after Gbode and Jonny Williams were both sent off in stoppage time.
“There was obviously some bad blood between the clubs so well done to everyone for not carrying that on,” Swindon boss Holloway said.
“That’s not what football’s about. It’s about young kids coming through and being as nice as we can to every Gillingham supporter there.
“The future’s got to be better than that. We’ve got to be bigger than that.
“I love the game. My granddaughter’s going to play her first game this weekend. The game belongs to everybody.
“Gillingham’s ground is lovely. I’ve not been here for a while. I wish Gareth all the best, but not against us.
“I’m really proud of our football club and looking forward to the challenge of building a team we can be proud of.
“That was a very solid performance without the glitter. We made a lovely cake without the icing on the top, but we normally do. We normally score.
“I didn’t feel we’d lose. I never felt we would lose. It was a very strong, solid away performance.”
Gareth Ainsworth’s side stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games.
“I don’t know what’s gone on at the end, I’ll have to watch the video,” he said. “But there’s a scuffle at the goalmouth. Obviously the assistant referee has called it. Joe gets a second yellow. They don’t seem to be punished that badly.
“Jonny got his first red card as well. I don’t want red cards, but I like the fight in them. I like that they are standing up for themselves.
“It was a great atmosphere. You could feel it coming into the ground, let alone actually inside the ground. I could see this means something to Gills and I’ll embrace that.
“It’s a mental note that Swindon’s a big game for us. I thought maybe Bromley or Southend, but Swindon is tasty.
“I didn’t notice it was nine against 11 at the end. I’m glad it was only 10 seconds.
“We’re still unbeaten so I’m really proud of that. I could feel the nerves coming from the fans, but stick with us. Those boys will give us everything.”
