Steven Schumacher knows his Bolton side need to be more ruthless next year.
The former Plymouth boss took charge of the Trotters back in January.
He was pleased with ending a four-game losing streak but frustrated that a number of chances were spurned during his side’s 1-1 draw with Peterborough.
Malik Mothersille broke the deadlock with a penalty before Chris Forino levelled.
“You’ve got to put those chances we had away,” admitted Schumacher. “That’s what has been letting us down recently.
“The opportunities have been there in the games, but we’re just not taking them.
“That’s frustrating. (John) McAtee’s gone round the keeper and hit the post and that’s not ideal. But it’s part of the game.
“As long as the lads are in there getting the chances it’s fine. But as a team and as a whole, we need to be more clinical next year.
“Our fans deserved that type of performance. I think they probably sensed we should have won that game as well.
“We’ve lost four games on the spin and two of those away performances were certainly below the standards that we need.
“We were at it and that’s what I asked for. We limited them to few opportunities.
“We want to finish the season at home with a good performance and the three points that we didn’t manage today.”
Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson also cut a frustrated figure after his side missed the chance to win their last home game of the season.
He saw Mothersille’s second penalty saved and said: “I’m disappointed we haven’t been able to win our last home game.
“I thought we started the game really well and deservedly went in front. It was a good penalty. He won it himself with a great run.
“We conceded a soft goal. I think it was a game we could have won, but also lost as well.
“We should win the game. Malik missed a penalty and should score. It was a moment that was critical.
“Will (Blackmore) did well. He’s a good goalie. There’s nothing he could have done for the goal.
“He made a few really good saves. He needs to play games. I need to keep looking at him.
“He hasn’t had the opportunities this season because I’ve got three good goalies.”
