El Wilstermann boliviano logró su primer triunfo en la Copa Libertadores al vencer en casa por 3-2 al Athlético Paranaense brasileño con un autogol y dos penaltis, en la quinta jornada del grupo G.
Los 'aviadores' vencieron mediante el autogol del portero brasileño Santos (m.23) y los penaltis convertidos por Jorge Ortiz (m.51) y Carlos 'Tonino' Melgar (m.87).
Para el plantel de Tiago Nunes anotaron Renán Lodi (m.40) y el argentino Marco Rubén (m.57), de penalti, en el encuentro disputado en los 2.560 metros de altitud del estadio Félix Capriles, en Cochabamba.
Con este resultado, el Atlético Paranaense deberá aguardar a lo que ocurra en el encuentro entre el Boca Juniors argentino y el Deportes Tolima colombiano para ver si conserva o no el liderato del grupo G.
Alegría boliviana
Entretanto, el triunfo fue un bálsamo para el Wilstermann, que esta semana cesó al español Miguel Ángel Portugal y tiene como entrenador interino al argentino Norberto Kekez.
Los brasileños supieron combinar la defensa ante las llegadas del Wilstermann con un juego ofensivo que supuso un peligro para los locales en más de tres ocasiones en el primer tiempo.
Por su parte, el Wilstermann no aflojó en busca de asegurar su primera victoria en la Libertadores, con intentos sobre todo de Gilbert Álvarez y el brasileño Serginho.
La presión roja dio frutos en el minuto 23, con un saque de esquina de Serginho que fue mal despejado por la defensa visitante y encontró habilitado a Ricardo Pedriel.
El balón fue enviado hacia la portería por el atacante boliviano, rebotó contra el palo y finalmente tuvo el último impulso al chocar con la mano de Santos.
Los visitantes no bajaron los brazos tras el gol y continuaron buscando el arco contrario en pos de igualar el marcador, lo que finalmente lograron a falta de cinco minutos para la conclusión de la primera mitad.
Un remate de Renan Lodi que pasó cerca del defensa boliviano Ramiro Ballivián permitió a los brasileños ir al descanso con la tranquilidad del empate.
Un segundo tiempo más intenso
Ambos equipos volvieron a la cancha con ansias de sentenciar el encuentro con incesantes ataques y contragolpes, siendo uno de los más insistentes Serginho.
En el minuto 49, Serginho intentó un cabezazo que dio en el brazo de Jonathan, por lo que el árbitro paraguayo Mario Díaz de Vivar sancionó un penalti a favor de los locales.
Ortiz fue el encargado de rematar, dando la ventaja temporal al Wilstermann.
Reyes cometió una falta contra Lodi en el minuto 55 y nuevamente Díaz de Vivar concedió un penalti, esta vez al Paranaense.
El argentino Marco Rubén estuvo a cargo del disparo, igualando a dos el marcador.
La desesperación del Wilstermann se notó por momentos con ataques desordenados y al dejar pasar algunos contragolpes del plantel brasileño, que parecía satisfecho con el empate.
A falta de tres minutos para el tiempo reglamentario, una mano de Paulo André en el área del Wilstermann dio a los locales la oportunidad de quedarse con el triunfo.
