Man Utd plot £38m bid to sign River Plate teenager compared to Man City star Phil Foden in summer transfer window
{by} Goal.com

Manchester United are eyeing a move for River Plate sensation who has been dubbed the 'Argentine Phil Foden'.

  • Man Utd eyeing a move for 'Argentine Phil Foden'
  • Became youngest scorer in River Plate's history last year
  • United to face competition from Barcelona and Atletico

WHAT HAPPENED?

United are expected to make several signing in the upcoming summer transfer window as Ruben Amorim looks to rebuild the squad after a nightmare journey in the 2024-25 campaign. The club have already started to indentify players, whom they want in the summer and one such potential signing could be River Plater sensation Franco Mastantuono, according to The Sun.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 17-year-old Argentine prodigy can operate in multiple positions in the attack, but he prefers to start from the right before switching to his favoured left foot. This style of play has drawn comparisons with Manchester City and England star Foden. The Red Devils are looking to sign the young prospect this summer and are reportedly ready to trigger the player's £38 million ($51m), although they are expected to face competition from La Liga clubs Barcelona and Atletico Madrid and Serie A giants Inter.

DID YOU KNOW?

Mastantuono became the youngest scorer in River Plate's history last year when he scored in an Argentine Cup win over Excursionistas. At just 16 years and five months, the player broke Javier Saviola's record.

WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?

Amorim's men will be back in action next Sunday when they take on Bournemouth in the Premier League before travelling to Spain to face Athletic Club in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final fixture.
