Gary Bowyer keeping feet on the ground after climbing out of drop zone
{by} PA

Burton head coach Gary Bowyer was keeping his feet on the ground despite seeing his side move out of the League One bottom four with a resounding 3-0 win over faltering Huddersfield.

Albion hit the front early with Rumarn Burrell scoring the first of his two goals after nine minutes before capping a superb afternoon with a 10th of the season to wrap up the scoring, Julian Larsson crucially giving Albion a two-goal advantage on the stroke of half time.

“It’s fantastic.” Bowyer said. “We’ve sent the fans home happy today and I’m delighted about that.

“Ru was a real menace today with his running and for him to get into double figures, not just for the season but since January 1st is unbelievable.

“It shows the magnitude of his efforts and those of his team mates too. The message is now that he needs to kick on.”

But Bowyer was keen to emphasis the team effort that went into securing Albion’s biggest win of the season and saw them out of the relegation zone for the first time since September.

“Our strength is in the group and that really came to the fore again today. With so many players out with injury or suspension and with Finn Delap on full debut too. I thought he was man of the match today, in my opinion.

“Our intensity was incredible. Last time we played Huddersfield, away, we had to defend 17 corners and today I don’t think they have had a shot on our goal and that was down to the togetherness and work rate of our lads.”

For Huddersfield interim head coach Jon Worthington, it was a chastening afternoon as the Terriers showed little sign of propelling themselves back into the League One play-offs.

“That is not acceptable in any shape or form.” He started. “I have told the players that as well.”

Huddersfield were on the back foot from the off as Albion showed more intensity, and the interim boss was visibly unhappy.

“I don’t have the answers as to how they can turn in a performance like that, and I am extremely disappointed at this moment in time. We knew the importance of the game, but they didn’t perform out there.”

It felt like the Terriers had given up on the play-offs despite a gap of only four points at the start of play and Worthington was concerned about their approach.

“I hope they haven’t. Because that is a problem if they have. You can’t give up until anything is mathematically impossible and it would be a big concern for me if they have.

“I can’t accept the fundamentals not being there. Some of the duels, some of the tackles. I can’t put my name to that because that is everything that I am not. I call it as I see it and I have told the players that. Today was not good enough.”
