Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin labelled Shayden Morris’ winning goal against Ross County “special” as the Dons continued their push for third in the William Hill Premiership.
The English winger’s first-half strike stole the headlines, running from inside his own half into the County box and firing into the net off the underside of the crossbar.
It was his fifth goal of the season and Thelin was delighted to see Morris produce such a finish.
Thelin said: “It was really special. Sometimes you need that in really tight games and we were a strong collective defensively but he gave us that extra up front.
“He’s doing well and I’m happy to see his journey from his years in Aberdeen.
“This year he has taken small steps all the time, and sometimes time is your best friend in developing.
“He has more responsibility defensively but he has also contributed with goals and assists.”
On Morris’ long-term future with Aberdeen, Thelin added: “We have a good dialogue with Shayden and he looks happy when he’s here which is the most important thing.
“He believes in our journey and our players, and he’s playing with a smile on his face which is good.”
Ross County manager Don Cowie was left ruing the lack of saves Aberdeen goalkeeper Ross Doohan had to make.
Although the Staggies only recorded four shots on target during the match, that was the same number as their conquerors in Dingwall, so Cowie felt a result was well within reach.
“It was a very similar game to last week. We were up against a team in the top six and put in a competitive performance,” Cowie said.
“There was a lot of effort and endeavour, we just didn’t create enough opportunities.
“We had enough set-plays and territory at times and we didn’t make the most of that, which is frustrating. Then we get done by a real moment of quality from an Aberdeen player.
“You always look at what you can do better as a team, but we all know in Scottish football that he possesses real pace and can hurt you.
“At the end of it, he comes up with a fantastic finish. It comes from our set-play and we get done by a counter attack.”
