Outspoken Salford manager Karl Robinson accused referee Jacob Miles and his match officials of lying to him after his side secured a 1-1 Sky Bet League Two comeback draw at Barrow.
Robinson was incensed the Bluebirds’ 37th-minute goal from Tyler Smith was allowed to stand, claiming the striker’s effort did not cross the line.
So the Ammies believed justice had been done when home keeper Wyll Stanway punched a Luke Garbutt corner into his own net.
“I have been lied to by the officials,” said Robinson.
“They said to me the assistant referee on the far side saw it. But it is impossible unless he has eyesight like Superman when he can see through people.
“He cannot see that ball. I question again certain aspects of the decision-making against Salford City. This can’t carry on.
“I am asking the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Ltd) to get this right. Have I used referees as scapegoats in my career? Yes, a lot. This is one of the first times I am not using it as a scapegoat.
“For large parts of the game we were excellent but once we got on level terms, we stopped playing. Because we were desperate to win we chased for everything and almost left ourselves exposed.
“We are the underdogs every single week and everyone writes us off.
“When you have got ownership who have been the greatest players of a generation (Manchester United’s ‘Class of 92’), there are always people who don’t want to see us do well.”
Stanway had pulled off a string of fine saves before his 69th-minute error and had Smith taken a great chance a few minutes before Salford’s equaliser, there would have been a different outcome.
Barrow boss Andy Whing said: “I thought we had the better chances to go and win the game.
“In the second half, we had two or three gilt-edged chances. You put Tyler Smith in those situations, you expect him to score.
“We have got to be more ruthless in front of goal because we have had big chances.
“It is nowhere near good enough if we want to get to where we want to get to. We have got to have more prolific goalscorers within our team.
“We could have got the three points but I think we are heading in the right direction.”
Salford’s point leaves them 11th, five points off the play-offs with a game in hand. Barrow, beaten only once in their last seven games, are 16th, 13 points ahead of the drop zone but also 13 from the top seven.
