Decía Dani Parejo el 13 de enero que se negaba a dar por perdida la temporada. Eran tiempos en los que por Mestalla había malestar y en Singapur, nervios y dudas. 95 días después del tuit del capitán, el Valencia confirmó bajo una intensa lluvia su presencia entre los cuatro mejores de la Europa League. El Valencia resolvió la eliminatoria con el Villarreal con una diferencia incontestable. El 5-1 evidencia como llega uno al tramo decisivo del curso y a su vez resume la temporada global del otro. El partido en Mestalla fue un simulacro de derbi, porque el Villarreal no está para quemarse en nada que no sea salvar la categoría, de ahí el once de Calleja, y también porque el Valencia, aún con rotaciones, se dejó la especulación en el vestuario y salió a ganar. Marcelino inclusive arriesgó alineando a Guedes, que estaba apercibido. Pero el asturiano entendió que la mejor manera de no sufrir ni dar lugar al milagro amarillo era pegar primero. Lo hicieron los suyos por la vía rápida (minuto 12) y con mediación del portugués, que fue quien asistió a Lato. Ahí acabó lo que se daba, que era poco.
